Soloist. Songwriter/singer. ASCAP member. A NICE WITNESS FOR CHRIST There is an extensive interview of me done by Scott Crawford, at . Do not let the site name alarm you. It is an "adult-themed music and entertainment" site. It is not a porn site, and you will not get tagged for spam if you go there. Scott is a journalist of integrity, who asked pertinent and penetrating questions, then printed my answers verbatim. Both God and His son received much attention in the interview. REVIEWS: "Fancy keyboard playing is the backdrop for this positive and upbeat collection. Hackley's vocals are reminiscent of Burl Ives." Review by Brent Castillo, The Wichita Eagle, March 5, 2005. "world's wimpiest Christian rocker". Brother Russell Podcast; : INFLUENCES (a very lengthy list, ending with...) "and of course, Richard Hackley." "Yet the songs on the Worst of the Worst can be compelling in their awfulness. Songs like Richard Hackley's rabble-rousing, hackles-raising spiritual God's Backhand ("We're not talking about tennis or Ping-Pong!") "; "Richard Hackley... HUGE musical influence. And a real bad mofo live.";

Story behind the song
After watching a news broadcast of a normal person doing something heroic, I thought about a song reflecting how courage grows (or does not grow) in us over years.
Lyrics
(v.1) He was walking down the street. He was struttin' real mean. Eyes like lasers and a heart like a machine. He turned into the corner store to steal some smokes. He looked around and laughed at all the frightened folks. Then he saw the masked men. Then he saw the gun. Then he heard his orders, "On the floor everyone!" Everyone was shakin' and everyone was cryin' And everyone was thinking 'bout the prospect of dyin'. But when it was over and the robbers left the store, Our rough, tough machine was the last one off the floor. (chorus) Silently over the months and the years, Depending on how we handle our fears, We become weak, or we become strong, Until one day something big goes wrong. Frightening most. Inspiring some. And we can find what we've become. (v.2) He was standing on the corner watching girls go by When a big silver jet fell from the sky. It crashed into the neighborhood that he was in And put him in a situation he'd never been. He could hear people screaming as smoke filled the sky. "I've got to help," he thought. "I've got to try." So in he went into the burning hell Trying to find each hysterical yell, Dragging them out onto the concrete And the neighborhood knew there was a hero on the street. (chorus)
