We are a group of people who enjoy songwriting and then recording the songs. We do it for fun.
The Overtone Gang is a group of people who enjoy songwriting and then recording the songs. The structure of the gang is flexible and people may participate on one CD and not on another. It's their choice. Each person is allowed to pursue their own projects and come back to join the gang. Egos get in the way of music so we try hard to eliminate the reasons for it. 7 different people have been involved in the first three CDs. The Cycle of Life CD included a lot more people (16 in total). Our CD "Relations" had only four people. On our latest CD, Earth, there were three of us, Melanie Broussard, Buddy Trotter and Danny Liggett. The gang has written and recorded songs for 8 CDs. These were recorded by ourselves (no record deal). We duplicate our own CDs, design and print out the booklet and put the jewel case together. We do it for fun.

Story behind the song
Some guys are just failures in both work and in love. They don't try and then wonder why they fail. Until it's too late
Lyrics
I couldn’t keep a job; never felt inspired Did what I could do to get myself fired Sittin’ on the porch puffin’ cigarettes Got my exercise playing fetch with my pet She worked everyday while I watched T.V. Brought the money home; that was fine with me I drank with my buddies; stayed out all the time Never thought about her needs but she catered to mine Then she met another guy He sent her long stem roses in a pretty yellow box Long stem roses like the ones she never got He sent her long stem roses in a pretty yellow box He was everything … I’m not As she read his little note I could read her eyes A woman in love and a hint of pride I knew right away I’d better say somethin’ Wasn’t gonna lose my little dumplin’ I said, “What’s he got that I don’t” She said, “He does for me what you won’t” “He’s cool and smooth; you’re loud and rough Sittin’ on your butt; I’ve had about enough He’s some kind of guy “ Now I know old habits are hard to change Though I promised her I’d try But in the end she went with him Cuz all I did was lie He was some kind of guy
