Story behind the song
I have tried to write a song about my "friend" Honey a few times a few times since her passing on 1 September 2008. This is the first attempt that has not sounded totally crass and awful. It's helped by the quality of the backing track. I hope I have done her justice - a sweet good natured faithful companion.
Lyrics
I had a great friend for nearly twelve years,
She was faithful and true and her memory cheers.
Trusting in nature and a friend to the end,
I'll cherish her memory as her grave I'll attend.
I was supposed to keep her safe and well,
Bur when the illness came it tolled her death knell.
In my mind I sit with her side by side,
That's where she now lives and always will.
I celebrate the thoughts of my pretty girl,
When she was lively and lovely before she was ill.
She trusted in me to do my best for her,
I pray and trust I didn't fail.
Honey and I had twelve joyful years,
It was worth the pain of a few weeks of tears.
Oh my pretty girl, my faithful friend,
I hope I was a comfort to you at the end.
In those last few minutes my pretty girl,
In those last few minutes my pretty girl,
My pretty girl.
