This is a song about that fateful day on 9-11-2001 that was written as things were unfolding throughout the day. It was recorded the NEXT day and won songwriting awards in Orlando and Boston.
“LEFT BEHIND” (Dwain C. Hathaway) © 2001 D.C. Hathaway Music It was a day I know I won’t forget as I watched the big airliner jets. The pictures are forever in my mind. In disbelief I heard the sounds as the towers crumbled to the ground. So many gone. So many left behind. Some went in to save but died. They braved the towers as we cried. What a price to pay for terror of this kind. Others chose to take them down before they crashed into the ground. Heroes to all that’s left behind. CHORUS: Left behind to rise above the sorrow. Left behind, growing strong with each tomorrow. We’re the red, white & blue. We’re the spirit of mankind. Freedom rings for all that’s left behind. When I look back I thank the Lord though the ashes burned the eagle soared as the spirit of the nation was defined. Americans are made of steel. We bend and give but never yield. We do what must be done when left behind. (CHORUS) BRIDGE: We lift our heads across the land. We wipe the tears and still we stand. 9-1-1 will never be the same. There’s fire in the days to come. United we will overcome. May the grace of God be with us through the flame. _________________________________________________________ (CHORUS TWICE)
