Lots of my classical leanings in the orchestration. Minor key based, but certainly not a downer. The minor key is to set up contrast with the hook ('astonishing power'), which is in a major key.

Soloist. Songwriter/singer. ASCAP member. A NICE WITNESS FOR CHRIST There is an extensive interview of me done by Scott Crawford, at . Do not let the site name alarm you. It is an "adult-themed music and entertainment" site. It is not a porn site, and you will not get tagged for spam if you go there. Scott is a journalist of integrity, who asked pertinent and penetrating questions, then printed my answers verbatim. Both God and His son received much attention in the interview. REVIEWS: "Fancy keyboard playing is the backdrop for this positive and upbeat collection. Hackley's vocals are reminiscent of Burl Ives." Review by Brent Castillo, The Wichita Eagle, March 5, 2005. "world's wimpiest Christian rocker". Brother Russell Podcast; : INFLUENCES (a very lengthy list, ending with...) "and of course, Richard Hackley." "Yet the songs on the Worst of the Worst can be compelling in their awfulness. Songs like Richard Hackley's rabble-rousing, hackles-raising spiritual God's Backhand ("We're not talking about tennis or Ping-Pong!") "; "Richard Hackley... HUGE musical influence. And a real bad mofo live.";

Story behind the song
References the parable of Jesus when he described faith as a mustard seed being all that was needed to uproot a sycamine tree. The seed & tree information presented in verse 1 is from teachings provided by the late Bishop K.C. Pillai, born and raised a Hindu, but converted to Christianity.
Lyrics
copyright 2011 by Richard Craig Hackley INTRO = (whisper: 'Faith'. The tiniest unit has ...) astonishing power. v1 The mustard seed of which Jesus spoke Is so minutely small, The wind could blow one in your eye And you'd not know it at all. The sycamine tree of which Jesus spoke Spreads its roots so far If you try to dig them out yourself You never will get them all. CHORUS 1 = (whisper: 'Faith'. The tiniest unit has ...) astonishing power. v2 When your seed and your tree collide Don't assume the tiny guy will splatter. That's what Jesus was telling us, With faith, size doesn't matter. Has your tree spread its roots far & wide? Jesus might tell you today "If you have faith the size of an atom, "You can vaporize the whole tree away." CHORUS 2 = (whisper: 'Faith') The tiniest unit has ... astonishing power. v.3 When it comes to faith, it's not about Gigantic complexity It's about a child trusting a father A child who is doubt-free. (The tiniest unit has Astonishing power) Your sycamine tree has bluffed its way To a false supremacy Give God an atom of faith to work with And unleash His ability. CHORUS 3 = Astonishing power. Faith is not measurable stuff. The tiniest unit has ... If you have any, you have enough. The tiniest unit has ... Astonishing power (x2)
