30 years ago (c) Emmrich 2010 (verse) On a dark and dusty road I made my way out into the world left behind my mama and my favorite dog I figured she needed him more than me just wasn't right it seemed but it was all I had to leave behind (chorus) the bright lights beckoned the night life summoned me I could hear it whispering my name real low fortune hiding 'round the next bend but sometimes those turns are just dead ends that was 30 years ago (verse) on a lit but dirty road I found that city life was not how it was pictured in the magazine lies abound and you gotta watch your friends close cause they are not what they seem like they were 30 years ago (chorus again) (bridge) I lie here sometimes and picture the green fields back home I often think of leaving and making my way back south (verse) on a street named Hope, near a church named Jesus i found out that many folks have neither and sometimes a siren wailing in the night takes the place of those whippoorwills (chorus again) Kevin: acoustic guitars, vocals, harmonica
