Unity Gospel
First giving honor and praise to God almighty!
"The most exciting Gospel group this year (2005)!" has just begun to garner the exposure
it needs: Unity Gospel will be featured on an upcoming motion picture soundtrack, and will
be interviewed on several Radio, and internet stations across the country.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
"UNITY GOSPEL" is Grover Johnson,Danny Earl Walker Sr., Gary Tyrone Pullman and Darrly Brewer.
Grover Johnson: the son of the late Rev. Laura & James F. Johnson, was born in
Los Angeles, California and grew up in Compton. After being baptised by his father, in the
family church, he later joined other family members in the choir. This was where he refined
his talent learning to sing & play the Piano as well as other instruments...singing was
in his blood: the nephew of a famous Opera singer, and uncle to a major label recording
artist was proof of that.
Growing up in Compton presented challenges & difficulties: as many rebellious youths do, he
took the easy way out and became involved with gang activity. This new life proved to be
more difficult to navigate, and survive in than the one his late parents wanted him to follow.
However, he would not recognize this fact until after suffering devasting loss and reprimand.
After distancing himself from the fast life, and his past - he began to tour with tribute
groups(O'Jays, The FOur Tops and many more). But it wasn't to after the loss of his Father,
Sister, Brother, and Mother that he realized he was next unless he changed his life. In his
words, "I had a greater calling". He recognized that he had to become a role model for his
three children, and four nephews/neices (the only family he had left). So he found himself
devoting time & energy to the religion that he abandoned earlier - finding new meaning and
enthusiasm. He realized he was lacking one thing...true UNITY, and set out to accomplish that
through the Gospel. This is how the group "UNITY GOSPEL" was born. The name itself showing
the true meaning: "ONE GOSPEL FOR ALL"! He believed the Lord hand-picked the group members;
because shortly after he received the idea for the group, the members just miraculously
presented themselves. "It was like a magic show, Poof - they came one by one".
"It was truely a blessing", said Grover.
Gary Tyrone Pullman: like Grover, had music in his blood! Born in Los Angeles and growing up
in Compton, the son of show business parents was off to great things. He started singing at
the age of 11 with step father James, and brothers Gregory and Gerald. He sang with groups
such as: The Pure Souls, Hot Explosion, and Liquid Heat. He received a Business Degree in
Marketing/Management from California State University of Los Angeles. He has sang in choirs
such as: Bethel A.M.E, First A.M.E, Cottonwood Christian Center for over 30 years. Just prior
to becoming a member of Unity Gospel, toured with tribute groups: Shep & The Lime Lights,
The Miracles, The Four Tops, and The Delfonics. However, he felt something was missing as he
continued to grow in his faith towards Christ. After being led to Unity Gospel, he has
recognized a greater calling. As an intellgent, God fearing man - Gary will help to catapult
this group to the top of the Gospel charts.
Danny Earl Walker Sr: also known as "Vah Voom!" was born in Port Gibson, Mississippi. At the
age of 10, he caught the music bug after watching the O'Jays on Dick Clark's American Bandstand.
He started by mimicing his favorites atrists, and discovered he had a talent of his own...
he could sing. After moving to Los Angeles, he formed the group "Fully Exposed" touring Los Angeles.
He also felt a calling, and in 1998 he was baptised at New Direction Christian Fellowship Church.
He becam active in the church, but knew that there was something still needing to be accomplished.
He realized what it was when he found the group "UNITY GOSPEL". It is a task he was meant
to accomplish, and after you hear his voice you will understand why they call him "Vah Voom".
Darrly Brewer: Born/raised in Los Angeles, started singing as a kid. He honed his talent by singing
on the street corners of West L.A. with Doo-Wop groups in the 60's. Everyone who heard him knew
that he was special. His unique voice presented him with many opportunities such as membership to
several local groups until the mid 90's. After realizing he needed to devote his energy to his family,
and his personal development he gave up singing. That is unitl he realized he had been doing it all
wrong. He got the calling to do Gospel music, and ran with it. He was led to "Unity Gospel"
and believes this is the positive move in music that he has been looking for. "I pray to keep singing
for the lord.
