Uneven

The UNEVEN Band was born in the year 2003, a group of Atenean freshmen with their friends, who joined the Battle of the Bands competition during the Ateneo High School Fair (EARSTAB). Led by bassist Tim Mallillin, who was then a member of the Ateneo Music Industry Organization, the UNEVEN Band was a surprise 2nd place winner among the other bands composed mostly of seniors. Their signature piece, YYZ by Rush, was a standout in the competition. Inspired by this triumph, Tim pursued to establish a name for the band and together with drummer Mike Ambas, they got lead guitarist Neil Lolin, keyboardist JR Mallillin and vocalist Chuck Araneta to join them to complete the UNEVEN Band. The bands Dream Theater and Rush are a big influence to the group, and now they can easily wow crowds with difficult pieces like YYZ, Tom Sawyer, Erotomania, Overture 1928 and Hells Kitchen, among others. Aside from specializing in progressive rock music, the band also plays contemporary variety music, and performs songs of local bands, the likes of Bamboo, P.O.T., Wolfgang, and Razorback as well as pieces like Meant to Live and #41 by the more popular American bands, Switchfoot and Dave Matthews Band. UNEVEN has regularly guested in the Ateneo HS Fair Concerts, as well as events organized by the Ateneo Music Industry, which Tim heads as President since his junior year. Some of these are Acoustic M.I.C. (March 2003); Patibong (January 2004); Propositum (January 2005), and Hirit Pa! (Burgundy Plaza, March 2005). More recent performances were at the Summer Scream Showdown: Battle of the Girl Bands, last May 2005 at the La Piazza Events Venue, Capitol Hills, QC, where UNEVEN was a guest artist. In the same month, UNEVEN was also tapped to perform for the Faith Christian Fellowship Youth Concert, Driven, rendering 21 gospel Christian music at UP Aldaba Hall, Diliman, QC. The groups first public appearance was at the Station Grill Bar, at Riverbanks, Marikina City, as the front act for The Boyfriends and Abrakadabra Concert last June 4, 2005. UNEVEN hopes to capture a unique segment of the listening crowd with their superb instrumentation skills, honed by their manager and mentor, Mr. Nitoy Mallillin, a professional artist of the Abrakadabra Band. Nitoy has also helped them compose their first original piece, which they are currently recording, entitled NAGSISISI.
