Umojah I Stars
Umojah I Stars is an eclectic reggae collective, the group has a revolving line up, including players of instruments, singers and MC's. The exciting rapping talent of The Leano brings a totally original approach to reggae vocals, creating a cutting edge sound synonomous with his works. Also the incredible, natural, sweet melodies of Papa V, adds harmony and soul. Along with Ras Simba's singing of wordplay creates an original vocal approach to reggae music. Also featuring in the I Stars is Freaky Stew (Freaks Union) on lead guitar/bass/drums, Patoti MC and selector (Firehouse Sounds) and Ras Kuma vocals and instruments. Irie Biffta's skanking guitar, bass line struts and production underpin Umojah I Stars works.
Umojah I Stars captures the essence of contemporary, multicultural Britain, encompassing, embracing and reflecting a kaleidoscopic mix of influences, creating a unique vibe that is accessable to a diverse audience.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
The Umojah I Stars were born out of Umojah Radio (Kingston Upon Hull, HU5) these sessions are hosted by Ras Simba and engineered by Irie Biffta, local artists such as Freaky Stew, Yidaki Steve, Johnny V are invited to perform upon the selections.

As both individuals and a group our influences are too diverse to mention, the following are a microcosm: Reggae, Dancehall, Funk, Soul, Jazz, World Music, Hip Hop, R'n'B, Drum'n'Bass, Jungle.

The accoustic jams are one take improvisations, the vibe is based upon freestyling, however, some lyrics are pre-written.
