Two Ton Shoe
The band formed in late 1995 when guitarist Jake Shapiro returned from a 2-year odyssey in Moscow, Russia to join the remaining members of the Boston band Mystery Jones. Justin Beech, Jeff Gilman, and Dave DiCenso had played in Mystery Jones for 4 years, and all four musicians had played together informally for years prior. Two Ton Shoe hit the ground running and starting playing out around Boston within weeks of forming, initially relying on the support of the Mystery Jones fanbase. But the sound was different, more soulful and organic, whereas Mystery Jones had a hard edge. The response was overwhelming and Two Ton Shoe quickly rose to be a premier headlining act in the Boston area. Soon they were exanding their range, playing other Northeastern states, and even touring in California.
Early on Two Ton Shoe recognized the value of cultivating a strong independent status. They formed their own record label (L-Shaped Records, LLC), nationally trademarked the name Two Ton Shoe, launched a website and e-mail list during the first month of their existence, began managing and booking the band on their own, and released, promoted and distributed two full-length CD's with sales totaling 3,500 to date. It is this "build it and they will come" strategy that has given Two Ton Shoe some leverage in seeking and forming partnerships with others in the industry.
Among those who've grasped Two Ton Shoe's potential is producer Alex Perialas, who signed on to co-produce the band's second release on L-Shaped Records, "Figures..." Perialas' production credits include the latest Bad Religion album, R & B platinum-selling artist Ginuwine, as well as 80's metal legends Anthrax. Perialas was instrumental in capturing the raw energy as well as the grace of Two Ton Shoe's pop-driven mix of funk and straight rock. A pre-release version of "Figures..." garnered this review from Alan Levesque, Editor-in-Chief of Northeast Performer Magazine: "Two Ton Shoe have always had a felicity for hot wiring backbeat-driven pop tunes with hooks, but this souped-up second outing revvs up, rocks out and these guys drive it like it's stolen."
With a national radio campaign underway, an aggressive touring schedule, and an ever-increasing presence on the web (www.twotonshoe.com) you can expect to hear more soon from Two Ton Shoe.Have you performed in front of an audience? We play live - alot.
