Although this is the pop punk/indie-rock Turning Blue’s first full-length release, the band is no stranger to success. After releasing a four-song demo, the group took the grand prize in the 2000 Interactive Music Expo (IMX) Discovery Contest based mainly on their song writing. The prize led them to play at the Los Angeles Convention Center in October 2000 with Tonic at a benefit concert for VH-1 Save the Music and Musicares Foundation, established by the Grammy Foundation.
Turning Blue’s hometown fans have continuously shown their appreciation to the band. Turning Blue has been named one of the top five local bands in Rhode Island by a fan poll for WBRU (Brown University) in 2000 and 2001. The band also received an honorable mention in the 1999 and 2002 Billboard Songwriting Contest.
Turning Blue’s music is spreading beyond traditional music fans to Hollywood filmmakers. The song “Letdown” is featured in the movie “Repli-kate” from the producers of “American Pie.” The band’s song "Me Vs.the World" is featured in the Tomorrow Film Corp. movie "Deal of a Lifetime". Turning Blue is also a featured artist in a new film documentary entitled “20 Years of Punk while NBC television producers used Papercut in a May 2002 episode of “Just Deal.”
Singer/guitarist Scott Thomas along with bassist Rob C, and guitarist Mike Melody founded the band. Drummer Tom Harrop was added to the lineup in early 2002. The transition to a new drummer was made easier because Harrop’s personality was in line with the other band members they never take themselves too seriously. With the lineup complete, the band spent the summer of 2002 finishing the recording process.
Now, with “Whatever ‘Til We Die” out on Pal-Tone Records, Turning Blue is preparing to spend 2003 touring the U.S. in support of the album. One of the things Turning Blue enjoys while touring is the interaction with fans. The response from the fans has been positive, as many of them live the same lives.
