TRIPPING WEST

We are a Vancouver based quartet who's solid vocals and memorable melodies have drawn comparisons to acts such as The Pretenders, The Cranberries and Blondie.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Amid much scandalous behaviour and rampant rumour mongering, and fraught with all of the requisite drama that accompanies such times, Tripping West came into being in the early Spring of 2004. Third time was the charm for John and Orlando, who had played together on two previous Vancouver projects. Bringing in Tricia on lead vocals, Alex on lead guitar/keyboard, it seems they had finally worked out the chemistry of this winning formula... But seriously, we've been playing together for over two years now, and we're having a blast. We've played at various locations around the Vancouver area, and are presently working on a full length CD which should be released by july of 2006.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
We play in and around Vancouver. We love the energy of our music in a live setting, and give the credit to our audiences for making our music so much more fun. One special moment that comes to mind is the first time a fan came over after a show and told us that she had goosebumbs during the performance of one of our songs. It's an amazing feeling to know that our music can affect people like that.
Your musical influences
Orlando - My personal musical influences are very much varied. I grew up listening to alot of Van Halen records and became a big fan of Sammy Hagar's solo stuff. I'm also influenced by a lot of British bands like Oasis, Blur and Radiohead. Tricia - Too many influences to name at once, but I've always been a big fan of Canadian artists (Gotta love Can Con!). Super proud of our national contribution to contemporary music, especially the women...Alanis Morissette, Sarah McLaughlin, Shania Twain, Bif Naked, Avril Lavigne...and so many others. More than sufficiant inspiration.
