Band/artist history
trippin default
Hailing from Omaha, NE, Trippin Default is a melodic hard rock band that for the last five years has aimed to function without the limitations of genre titles or a singular stylistic approach. Respectable musicians in their own right, the members of Trippin Default work off of one another in a unique and interesting way enabling them to create eloquent and powerful works. The diverse sound of the band is the culmination of various musical sensibilities and harmonic interplay.
The independent release of their first full-length album, for seasons change, in 2001 served as an audio history, tracking the bands musical and thematic growth and development. Initially fusing elements of groove-based rock and funk rhythms, and then moving towards inklings of harmony and melody, the record dealt with social relationships of everyday life and set the stage for further evolution. Inspired by love and loss, 2003s the point of indifference EP achieved a much more concise depiction of their music both aesthetically and conceptually. With dynamics at the forefront, the songs incorporate melodic ambience and raw, aggressive rhythms. Vocally, lamenting melodies and spiteful screams reflect a story exploring the dual nature of a relationship. Overall, the EP showcases a state of progress and a more critical approach to songwriting brought about by line-up changes and a stronger emotional connection with the music. The band has also contributed two songs to a compilation released on their label No Pride Records in 2005.
The true essence of Trippin Default comes to light through their live performances. On both physical and emotive levels they interact with one another and communicate that presence to the audience, drawing the crowd into the content of the music. High energy, intensity and reciprocitythese are the marks of a memorable Trippin Default show. As evidence of this, they recently won the Ranch Bowls three-round battle of the bands featuring over eighty Omaha bands. Furthermore, the band took first place in two similar competitive events, one held on the campus of Northwest Missouri State in Maryville, MO and one held in Exira, IA by the Legacy Sports Bar.
The group has seen its share of media exposure. Significant local and regional airplay, radio-sponsored showcases, several write-ups in various local publications, even feature articles in Omaha-based Medium Magazine and The Lincoln Journal Star out of Nebraska contribute to the ever-growing buzz surrounding the band. Using this buzz as a springboard, the band is expanding their exposure in numerous regional markets throughout Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Missouri, and South Dakota. They have served as an opener for national touring artists including Lost Prophets, Nonpoint, Machine Head, Phunk Junkeez, Hatebreed, and Acceptance as well as a supporting act for several festivals featuring 311, Stone Temple Pilots, Incubus, and Godsmack.
At the moment, the band is hard at work on material for an upcoming LP for a 2005 release. By employing the mindset embedded in their recent EP as a foundation, the band continues to individuate themselves from other bands through epic climaxes, expressive phrasing, and an increasingly eclectic mix of styles and textures mimicked by their emotional inspirations. The band is raising the standard in live performance and consistently working to bring their music to new audiences on a wider scale. With much promise and prospect, Trippin Default demands attention, commands the stage and is gaining momentum. This is an experience well worth keeping up with.
