'On the Run' Trevor Hansbury and Thomas Schied
'On the Run' is an impressive debut album from Trevor Hansbury, an Ennisman with a great feel for music, and Thomas Schied, a harmonica player from Germany. They met four years ago and decided to record this CD in Germany.
The influences on 'On the Run' range from Blind Boy Fuller to Stevie Ray Vaughan and from Robert Johnson to Rory Gallagher. There is an exceptional version of 'Rattlesnake Daddy', but my favourite track is the opening one 'They're Red Hot'. This takes us back to San Antonio, Texas, to Friday November 27th, 1936, and a recording made by the legendary Robert Johnson. Johnson's recording was probably based on an earlier number by Big Bill Broonzey called 'Take your Hands off Her'. The sound and feeling throughout is top class with a clean production by Martin Bochmann.
The album features fine singing and excellent harmonica accompaniment on a selection of Blues standards, Ragtime, Hokum and a couple of originals.
