Mysteriously moving with a kick-you-in-the-face punch that demands your attention, Transmission is the perfect blend of heavy rock riffs, hard-hitting drums, melodic interludes, and truly inspirational lyrics. Just as the melody begins to envelope your body and the lyrics engulf your mind, this band kicks your ass without looking back. With influences ranging from Tool to The Beatles, its no wonder this foursome is creating some of the most melodic hard rock tunes to come out of Atlanta in years.
Formed in 1999 by guitarist Tommy Thompson and vocalist Jason Roby, Transmission’s lineup became final in early 2001 with the addition of drummer Josh Hack and bassist Greg Sword. Evident in their heavy commercial melodies, Transmission is pure chemistry! With dynamics ranging from hushed wisps of layered air to body-pounding punches, Transmission produces a darkly energetic stage show that completely absorbs the audience.
As the band prepares to release their self-titled debut EP, their popularity in the Southeast continues to grow. The band is currently performing in venues in Georgia, Alabama, and Florida with tour expansion expected over the next several months.
From large to small venues, Transmission is generating a loyal fan base and a great deal of industry attention.Band/artist history
In 1999, Atlanta guitarist Tommy Thompson had tired of playing in bands with unmotivated musicians. Although some of his efforts had paid off with local recognition and popularity, he didn’t want to just “play in a band” anymore. He heard something unique in his head and had a level of dedication that he couldn’t find in other musicians. As he began to write what would become some of the most impressive songs to come out of the Southeast in years. He also began searching for the musicians who could expand on what he wanted to create.
At the same time, Atlanta vocalist Jason Roby decided it was time to find a band. He’d been playing guitar and singing for years, but he hadn’t really thought about finding a serious band until then. Though he had plenty of offers, he didn’t want to be a weekend warrior. He was dedicated to finding “the” band. After relentless searching, and just when he was ready to give up, he got an email from Tommy.
When the two met at Jason’s apartment, there was an immediate musical chemistry. By the end of the night, the two had produced one of Transmission’s most popular songs - “Crazy”. But finding the right band members would prove to be difficult for Tommy and Jason. One after the next, band members came and went; all the while Tommy and Jason continued to write some of the most requested Transmission material. After a about a year of relentless searching, it looked as if the guys would never find the drummer and bassist that could balance out Transmission’s melodic rock style
Meanwhile, in Washington DC, drummer Josh Hack was busy touring with one of the most sought-after indie bands on the East Coast. The band sold unprecedented numbers of CDs and was in rotation on some of the hottest commercial rock stations in the U.S. and Canada. But by July 2000, it was over. Having toured through Atlanta many times, Josh knew the caliber of musician he could find there. So he moved south. He filled up a U-Haul and came in search of “the” band
Having arrived in Atlanta from Detroit n ’95, bassist Greg Sword played with several different bands. He developed a reputation around town as a great player, an outstanding live performer and a hard working band member. The problem was that none of the bands he played with gave him that unmistakable feeling you get when you know it’s right. Practice after practice, show after show, Greg yearned for something more.
As Jason and Tommy continued to write together, searching for the musicians that would round out their lineup, Josh was busy searching for a band that was as serious and dedicated as him. Then, by answering a simple Internet ad, Jason and Josh hooked up. From the first time they played together, Jason, Tommy, and Josh knew that this was what they’d all been searching for. And the three didn’t have to go very far to find the right bassist.
Just two hundred feet away, in a small rehearsal space down the hall from Jason, Tommy, and Josh, Greg’s band was calling it quits. But Greg knew exactly what he wanted to do. He was well aware of Transmission’s remarkable music and, when asked to join the band, he wasted no time saying “yes.”
The rest is pure chemistry! The band continues to gain popularity in the Southeast, creating some of the most melodic hard rock to come out of Atlanta in years. Everyone who has seen Transmission agrees - Transmission is not a typical band; they’re a musical experience.Have you performed in front of an audience?Regional Southeastern United States
