Transcension (UK)
Progressive metal from Deeside, Scotland.Band/artist history
Well, Tranx' was formed summer 2004, when I asked my mate Daniel if he wanted to form an extreme metal band called Leviathan. We had nothing, absolutely nothing. No money, no instruments, or skill on instruments, no support. So we asked for guitars for Christmas. We got them. I started learning, although we soon discovered that you couldn't coax metal out of Daniel's Squier Strat, so he didn't learn.
Things were expectedly slow. We did however make recordings, random stuff featuring me on vocals and Daniel on guitar that would fit in the genre of aleatoric grind, and in September 2005, we printed off an album of 80 tracks onto a Memorex disc that we entitled 'Spontaniety Pure'. We did another a few months after, called 'The Return'.
Then in October 2006, after spending all that time learning and gathering resources, I recorded a song called 'Blades Of Contingency'. Not the "aleatoric grind" of the albums, but full-fledged, actual music, of the style I had gradually developed over all that time. It was recorded for a CD that me and a few mates were doing for an entrepreneur project, which ultimately failed.
However, I got hold of the song and started to send it to friends, and it has become quite a hit, I have to say.
Due to an argument between Daniel and I, he left in November. We have since resolved things though, and he admits to not being able to keep up with Tranx' development, still unable to gather the cash for a suitable instrument. I did get hold of a bassist though, a very talented jazz bassist called Jamie Albon, who agrees with me on musical grounds as well as on personal grounds.
Since, I have been spreading the word and trying to compose more music. And as of recent, I have been planning to record an EP called 'Ore' with the crew who did 'Blades Of Contingency'. I had promised it back in early '06. But conditions have never been favourable, until now. Watch this space!Your musical influences
The most significant primal influences of Transcension, like from way back 2003-2004, are Akercocke, KoRn, Sikth, Meshuggah and Fear Factory. They were the bands that helped me take off musically. Eaxh one of these bands has influenced me in a very specific way.
Although as time went, I discovered more technical and progressive stuff, and I became interersted in the ways of composition. I took on influences such as Anata, Death, Necrophagist, Cynic and Gorguts. I even started branching away from metal, and began listening to Classical and jazz. What equipment do you use?
