Story behind the song
Two motives to writing this song. Musically, I wanted to try out the use of effects - especially echo synchronised to the tempo of the song. Hope I haven't overdone it! I also wanted to have a go at writing words designed to be flexible in interpretation: Is it about unrequited love? A stalled career? The dangers of being overcautious? Or something else? You decide.
Lyrics
Well, I’m just biding my time,
Waiting… for the sun to shine,
Waiting… for a chance,
The right moment to advance.
Well, I’m just staying here,
Waiting… for the smoke to clear,
Waiting… for a break,
An opportunity that I can take.
I know what must do,
But my moment’s overdue,
I just can’t find a way of breaking through.
Well, I’m just killing time,
Waiting… for a helpful sign,
Waiting… for a clue,
The right conditions, for breaking through,
Well, I’m holding my ground,
Waiting… for the turnaround,
Waiting… for the day,
When all this patience will be repaid.
I know what must do,
But my moment’s overdue,
I just can’t find a way of breaking through.
Well, I’ll just live and learn,
Waiting… for the tide to turn,
Waiting… in the dry,
For murky weather to clarify.
I’m keeping out of range,
Waiting… for the winds to change,
Waiting… for a shift,
The perfect moment, to cut adrift.
I know what must do,
But my moment’s overdue,
I just can’t find a way of breaking through.
Oh I just can’t find a way of breaking through.
