Isaiah 53 is from the first verses of chapter 53 found in the book of Isaiah, one line is from Hebrews 2:3. One line is in refernce to John 14:6 and I am still amazed how John 3:16 flows so seemlessly into the melody. All the verses come from the K.J

Story behind the song
After accepting Jesus as Saviour in1969 songs started to come, always melody and words coming together at the same time in just minutes. However this song was quite different. In 1984 I had a guitar rhythm and a melody and no words, I would try to write words for the melody but no ideas would come, and this went on for weeks. It really started to annoy me. Everytime I picked up the guitar, I started playing the song but I had no words. One morning while waking up half sleeping. I knew the words for the song were in the Bible, in the book of Isaiah, and in chapter 53. When I gained a full state of consciousness, I ran to get my Bible and guitar. But first I had to stop at the Bathroom, I remember it was the longest minute of my life, after finishing in the bathroom, I picked up the guitar opened the Bible and sure enough it all came together and the song was completed in just a short time.
Lyrics
Verse 1 Who has believed us, when we gave our report and to who is revealed, the arm of the Lord, For He shall grow up before Him as a Tender Plant and as a root out of dry ground, He has no form and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire Him Verse 2 He is despised and rejected of men, a man of sorrow aquainted with grief, and we hid our face from Him, He was despised we esteemed Him not, He has born our griefs and carried our sorrows, and we esteemed Him stricken, smitten and afflicted of God Verse 3 He was wounded for our transgressions, and he was bruised, for our iniquities, the chastisement of our peace was on Him, and by His Stripes we are Healed, we are like Sheep we've all gone astray and the Lord laid upon Him the iniquity of us all. Verse 4 So how can we neglect, so great a salvation, and turn down, the Only I am the Way For God, So, Loved The World, That He Gave His Only Begotten Son, That Whosoever, Will Believe In Him, Will Not Perish, But Have Everlasting Life, Will Not Perish, But Have Everlasting Life Who has believed us when we gave our report
