Story behind the song
This one is a re-write of a song I had for a double album called Night/Day. I was proud of most of the music I had written, but there was just too much filler for me to put it out there. I decided to take the best of the best and tweak the lyrics a bit. This tune actually happened to be the first song I'd ever written. The more and more I got into the writing of this song, the less it became about our present leaders (won't name any names), and more about bringing down reality television. I'm kidding, of course, but the "big brother" line can throw the government off my tracks, while the rest of the song will keep Ryan Seacrest away. Pearson out.
Lyrics
Though you watch over us
And call yourselves “big brother”
I claim no relation
I don’t know who let you in
In the first place
It sure wasn’t me; it must have been he or she
Or we would be in the clear blue
But alas, we haven’t had a private word
In many, a-many bright moons
I just hope you’ve gathered that we’ll bring you down
Quite soon our hammer will meet the nail
Held still above your hearts
We’ll come swiftly with passion and total disregard
For our lives, much like the ones you just toss away
Like your pawns being taken over
To kill their king
Well it’s not a game to me
So keep your ears peeled
For a hush
Can you hear it?
No?
Good
‘Cause what comes next is deafening
And full of surprise
I wouldn’t want to ruin it
So now open your eyes
By this time there’s nothing you can do
To deny, so goodbye.
