Jamie Hamilton and Matthew Attard were previously in a band called Untested. When the band broke up, Jamie and Matt knew that they wanted to stay together as musical partners and so they set out to find others who shared their vision.
Matt's cousin, Robert Attard, had been playing guitar for years and was also looking for other musicians with whom to form a band. The three got together on bass, drums, and guitar, and were astounded at how well they clicked.
The three found their singer, Courtenay Benoit, when Rob came to visit a friend at the music school where she taught. Rob and Courtenay instantly realized they shared a similar musical passion and perspective, so Rob invited Courtenay to try out for the vocalist position. When the four practiced for the first time, it went so smoothly and fit so seamlessly that there was no question the lineup was set. Apophenia was officially formed in the summer of 2005 and has been going strong since.
