Focis (26)
Hip Hop artist/producer from Detroit, Michigan. Focis is signed to and is the president of independent production company Facemusic (Detroit, Chicago, Tokyo) and has released two solo albums, Still Dreaming (Dirty Redd Records) and Oxygen (Forsite Prod). In November 2006 Focis released “New Tokyo Mixtape” featuring Swizz Beats, Zeebra, Aloe Blacc (Stones Throw) and many more Japanese and American artists. Focis musical style can be compared to others from his region like Jay Dilla (RIP), Slum Village, Common, Kanye West. Is should be clear however that Focis is not an “underground” artist, his target is the mainstream hip hop market. Obviously Focis’ outlook is GLOBAL.
Facemusic has released 1 album nationally in Japan. In October 2006 Facemusic released “Krushgroove 1977” by Japanese Rapper YOKE. The album sold 10,000 units in Japan, easily outselling 85% of all major released hip hop albums in Japan in 2006.
Focis AKA “the voice of the D” will be successful because he has the lyrical ability and song writing ability that critics love and respect and the pop sensibility and visual style that SELLS MUSIC!! This story is still just beginning
