Story behind the song
I was living in Santa Barbara with some friends from Edmonds WA. We would go up to Jalama Beach near Lompoc, to surf and chill, and the view there was surreal. I went as far as to compare it to something out of C.S. Lewis' Narnia Series!(lol) The cliffs are giant, the sky seems endless, and the wind rips through there. The windy drive to get there (through the Santa Ynez Mountains) is a trip as well. It's a sanctuary, compared to the crowded vibe of college town (Isla Vista) we were living in. People surf and kiteboard there. This place, coupled with a photo of Puerto Esconido I found on surfline, were major influences on this song.
Lyrics
Thinking to myself on this cliffside after a quiet drive hadn't cleansed my soul or felt this way in a long time this purple sky shakes the doubt in my mind I left the old me to see what I can take back -purple sky i'm in my zone- shake from what holds you to your boring days what's the worst that could happen if you feel shitty anyway? surrounded I feel my best, and nothing compares with this intimate moment with the sky purple sky im in my zone feel the wind beneath you I am one I'm home I didn't need to leave. this is what I hold
