Christ centered songs written by Dan Simmons...various styles and genres...One message!

"firesong music ministry" is the songwriting ministry of Dan Simmons.

Thanks for stopping by. I began writing songs in 1977 and formed my first band in 1978. This website will be a sampling of recordings that I, along with family, friends and others, have done over past 50 years. There are over 800 original unpublished songs and recordings presented in demo form on this site. Special thanks go to my partners in music, my daughter Amber, son Ian and the guys of Single Heart (Gene Simmons, Bob Huston, Marty Smith, Chris Baker and Tata Talili) who joined me to sing praises to the Lord down through the years. I also wish to thank those co-writers and artists that have joined with me in developing new music the passed few years to share on this website. I'm now featuring AI groups that I've developed to sing some of the songs. Those include Fresh Fire, The Guys, Sisters in Arms, Fremont Street, Simonzoon, Crossfire, Damascus Road, Grassfire, etc. Each in their own unique genre and delivery.

I hope it's evident to everyone... that though the melodies and harmonies, styles and singers may change... JESUS has always been and will always be...the Song! ...this music is one simple expression of a very thankful heart.

(Dan is a retired firefighter and lives in west-central Illinois with his wife M'Len))

Story behind the song
I received a poem from a friend of a friend written by Mona Bagasao about the passing of a loved one and felt inspired to render it into a song, so I altered a line or two and added a melody. Mona's poem was entitled "Like a Hero" and from that came "This Grateful Heart of Mine" Fremont Street sings this rendition...dedicated to the memory of Firefighter Tom Baughman, my good friend.
Lyrics
There are never enough words....to tell someone how much you love them And there's never enough time....to spend together while they're here But I know for you and I....there are more than enough memories To keep us close....for the rest of my years So, when we gather as a family...and recall those precious memories We'll laugh and we'll cry....as we remember things you've said And we know that we've been given....someone special in this lifetime To help us envision...what's waiting up ahead You were an angel...watching over us You were a hero....helping us survive Like the sunrise in the morning You brought hope and you brought healing Ever living....in this grateful heart of mine You were an angel...watching over us You were our hero...helping us survive You were the sunrise...you brought hope, you brought healing Ever living...in this grateful heart of mine An angel in this heart of mine A hero to this heart of mine Ever living...in this grateful heart of mine
