Story behind the song
I wrote this for my Moscow friend Angelika Sky, who is of Russian, Ukrainian and Polish descent. She wants nothing more than a reasonable negotiated peace in Ukraine based upon a mutual understanding of facts, rather than Russophobic prejudice. There are many others, even in the US, such as UN economist / committees head, Jeffery Sachs, former senior Pentagon advisor, Col. Douglas Macgregor Ph.D and Watergate journalist Seymour Hersh, etc. who feel the same way, and are currently being barred from the mainstream press. I think Washington and NATO have gone completely nuts! Even Trump could still be better in this regard, though he should dump General Kellogg. Even General Mills would make more sense. So now the sanctions are backfiring and Russia has overtaken Germany as Europe's strongest economy, while still fighting the war as a limited Special Operation while waiting for us to come to our senses and understand that the majority of eastern Ukrainians side with Russia. Lyrics
Friends across enemy lines, living where the light still shines
Friends across enemy lines, seeking truth and leaving hatred behind
In 1918 we claimed the prize, but then Versaille caused Hitler's rise
Do unto others as you'd have them do, on another day unto you
This point so often gets lost in the haze, and leads to anger and a violent craze
So can we figure out these karmic laws, and realize there's no Santa Claus, and be
Friends across enemy lines, living where the light still shines
Friends across enemy lines, seeking truth and leaving hatred behind
We claim belief in democracy, but so did Blackbeard and his piracy
It's really all about plutocracy, and self-righteous hypocrisy
Propaganda in the mainstream news, herding cattle and lighting the fuse
We gotta break this cycle of gloom, before our nonsense brings the final doom, and be
Friends across enemy lines, living where the light still shines
Friends across enemy lines, seeking truth and leaving hatred behind
Friends across enemy lines, living where the light still shines
Now, you may call us traitors or worse, but we're loyal members of the universe
Friends across enemy lines, living where the light still shines
Now, you may think we're naive or blind, but we're plague-casters of a modern kind
Friends across enemy lines, yeah, friends across enemy lines
Great song, Frederick! I am very flattered, thank you! Sure that sooner or later reason and justice will prevail in this world.
