Torrents of Rain
This project is currently a one-man metal show. I have a lot of other things going on, so the music typically takes a while to write and record, but it does get worked on. The one thing that's really missing is a good vocalist. If you know of one, or are one, who lives in the Portland, Maine area, please go to and find the email link under the News section.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
Ripped from the official site:
I first started in music when I was a freshman in high school. I'd had an interest in music and metal for years, but never though of myself as a potential musician until I saw some friends playing a few Van Halen covers in the school's homecoming parade. I looked up and said to myself, "Hey - if they can play, I could too." A few weeks later I had my first guitar and was learning all the Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden that I could get my hands on. Well, OK - it took a little while before I was able to play the Iron Maiden.
That spring I joined my first band. We were a death metal band called Basilisk. We started off learning two covers - Metallica's "Fade To Black," and Megadeth's "Peace Sells" - before writing our own material. Those two songs were performed at a high school talent show (during which the auditorium's first mosh pit started, and the faculty closed the curtain on us - didn't stop us from finishing the song though). We wrote several songs over the next few months and were ready to play our first real show when I had to leave the band. Fortunately, they were able to find a replacement and ended up having a certain amount of local success.
It was another year before I found a band to play with. I jammed with friends a few dozen times, but nothing was worth sticking with until a friend introduced me to members of a band then known as "Live Wyre" (a name which very soon changed). After meeting the bass player and drummer for this band, they told me that they were looking for a lead guitarist. They also said that it wasn't a metal band, but as long as the music was good and the band was fun, I didn't care. I showed up for rehearsal that night to try out, and after blasting through four songs within a half hour, they decided to take me in. I found out later that the singer was against my joining the band because during that half hour I had already convinced them to change a few measures of a song - and it was his favorite few measures. Oh well - we played together for two years and became great friends regardless. Over those two years we played dozens of shows around Southern Maine and achieved a sort of fame for a song that was written as a joke and used to fill our first set list - "Satanic Seagull." After a fantastic time with this band, graduation came around and I left state for college.
In college I had a few attempts at forming bands, but they all failed due to one factor - time. Or maybe it was just my growing laziness and apathy about life. Two of those attempts had the makings of something great. The first was called "Spirit of Alexander" and occurred as a one-night-only jam session with myself on guitar, Nate Wilson on Bass, and Stephan Samuel on drums. The three of us brought influences from Mr. Bungle to Korn, and palyed some really wacked out stuff. It only lasted about three hours, but we really clicked for that time. Second was . The stuff Christopher is putting out under that name now is much more mature and well produced than the stuff we did in those days, but the overall feel is certainly related to what we wrote. Unfortunately we got ahead of ourselves and scheduled our first show before we had enough material to fill the time. I left the band over a disagreement about what to do with this show.
That brings us to this musical endeavor. I'm now writing music just for myself, and if you hear it and like it, I'd love to hear from you. Of course, I haven't written the "contact" portion of this website yet, but it will come soon. For now, just spread the word as far and wide as you can and keep checking back as new songs will appear from time to time.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
I haven't played live in years, but I'd love to get back into it.
