Band/artist history
I've been playing since I was 17 and singing since I could talk. I wrote my first song on the piano when I was 6 or 7 years old. I wish I could still remember it. I started performing live when I was 19 and have been in and out of the studio, on and off the stage since then. I've been gigging in Baltimore for almost two years now, and played all over Austin and Houston, TX before that.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
I play live in Baltimore. Haven't quite ventured outside Maryland as much as I'd like, but the music scene here is thriving, and the local talent is amazing, so I'm happy to call it home.
Your musical influences
I have such a wide range of influences. When I was a kid, I listened to the things that my parents and grandparents listened to: The top 40 from the 1980's, old country (Willy Nelson, Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash), John Denver, the Carpenters, and especially Madonna. As I got older and started making my own music, I fell in love with the new female folk scene: Indigo Girls, Ani Difranco, Catie Curtis, Dar Williams, Tracy Chapman, Cheryl Crow, Sarah McLachlan. Right now, I'm more into harder beats and music I don't see myself ever emulating, but I feel like it's influencing my writing in a positive way.
What equipment do you use?
Just my voice and my guitar, usually. Sometimes some percussion.
