Urban Funk with a strong eye on the future, might be the best way to distill the impact of Tomphoolery's unstoppable sound. Now more than ever, Tomphoolery's fire is spreading through Toronto, and heating up it's cold winter of unoriginal and redundant live acts. The seven piece funky hip-hop band, harnesses their influences of the funkiest dance music today -Hip-hop, Reggae, House, R&B, jungle and drum&bass- and rolls them up in a distinct and well-defined sound.
The group is composed of a conscious and clever MC/lead guitar player, a soul lifting voice from a sultry diva, two dynamic and thoughtful jazz saxaphonists, one down and dirty funky organ/clavinet/rhodes master and trumpet player, and the dopest hip-hop Drummer and Bass player in town. The seven piece urban ensemble, paints their canvass of modern and cutting-edge rhythms, with jazz textures and rock&roll energy. Tomphoolery's live show is without a doubt, one of the most captivating, rump rocking and head bopping shows around today.
Tomphoolery's most recent jaw dropping performance was their "sold out" show at Tequila lounge, with canadian music weeks " Best alternative latin band", PLAN C. Tomphoolery also recently tore the roof off funky and stylish nightclub, FEZ BATIK, on their bumping anniversary party. Tomphoolery also likes to participate in charity and community events. They recently played along side succesful canadian hip-hop band "BLUES UNDERDOG", in a charity for a non-profit bookstore called "UPRISING", responible for bringing conscious literature such as the third world situation into the city. Each venue that has hosted a TOMPHOOLERY show, has been eager to get the funk/hip-hop superheroes back in.
Tomphoolery's extensive arsenal of all original songs are infectious in the best possible sense. This music grows sweeter in the head of the listener, weeks after the performance has planted the seeds of interest. The band is led by songwriter, singer, MC and lead guitar player - KC Roberts. Roberts has played in authentic jamaican Reggae bands, in jazz festivals (Markham), modern funk and R&B bands, and rock, punk and ska bands. Joining in to the songwriting is keyboards player and singer, Vincent Spilchuk. Spilchuk wrote for and led succesful canadian funk band, The Dalai Lamas. Together their concept reaches towards a new music, which reflects aspects of such boundry breaking artists as Jamiroquia, the Roots, the Pocket Dwellers, Roy Hardgrove, Outcast and D'angelo.
