Todd Carlisle

I got into music at a very young age. Starting out at a drummer in middle school I quickly realized that I had to be doing something melodic so I began to sing. The natural progression of course is to pick up a guitar when you start singing so I decided to give that a try and here I am years later writing songs and hopefully good ones. I just enjoy taking whatever melody is going through my head and just playing it no matter the style or instrumentation. From time to time I wonder if a style such as mine could ever be something that people would enjoy listening too so I'm putting some songs out there to see.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
As I mentioned before I was in a band called Masters of the Obvious. If you want to hear some music from that era check out http://www.garageband.com/artist/mastersoftheobvious
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
I started out with a full band in Spartanburg, SC named Masters of the Obvious. College put an end to that project so I decided to take my part of the band and expand it into a solo act. Since then I have played numerous solo electric and acoustic shows around the Spartanburg area. Now I am in Columbia hoping to pick up where I left off.
Your musical influences
Jeff Buckley gave me hope that vocal driven music can succeed. So alot of people say that I sound like him but that isn't because I am trying too I just believe that people find influences to clarify a direction that they already had in them all along. I also listen to alot of Martin Sexton, Ani Difranco, Radiohead, and Smashing Pumpkins just to name a few of artist that I enjoy.
What equipment do you use?
Right now I play a 72' Thinline Fender Telecaster through a Roland GP100 Guitar Preamp into a Line 6 AX212 amplifier. I also play Alvarez Acoustic Guitars.
