BIO
Tilo was born in Queens NY in May 1981, His family came from Havana, Cuba right after the revolution of Fidel Castro. Moving to Madrid Spain then finally moving to New York City in 1965. Tilo's Parents became very wealthy with hard work owning their own business, Tilo's Father Gerardo Balmaseda was very close with many Latin celebrities giving him a popular reputation in the 70's & 80s. in the 80's Tilo (Gerardo I Balmaseda) grew up in the tuff borough of Queens where drugs and violence is pretty much anywhere. In 1985 Tilo's Father moved to Miami leaving Tilo and his Mother in Queens. In 1989 Tilo and his Mother moved to Miami, FL to re-unite with his Father. At the age of 10 Tilo's Father was sentenced to life for 1st degree Murder for a shooting in a public place that took a women's life and attempted murder on a Law enforcement officer, plus gun charges and concealment. Tilo was in the pool with his sisters and mother when they noticed Police and other government organization in the lobby in their Condo where his Father owned a property on the 9th floor. Once they returned to what was home they found the door open, a police/ government operation center was set up to track and monitor all calls that could lead to Tilo's Father. Tilo crushed emotionally was told to go to his room and wait while agents explained the tragedy to his Mother. Tilo's entire life changed from here on.
Kids in his school would make fun of Tilo calling his Father a murderer and a Cuban mobster, Tilo in pain would loose his temper and fight the kids causing him to get into trouble. His school's counselor at Southside Elementary in Miami understood Tilo's pain and asked to speak to him, after an hour of talk Tilo broke down in tears. A 10 year old with a broken heart and a temper problem. She asked Tilo to write for her what he felt, she said to make believe that all Tilo's anger will go on this piece of paper and never return again. Tilo looking at the psychological solution as a waste of time, he still took the paper and pencil and began. While he was writing, he noticed he was releasing energy in his words. Expressing as if he was yelling into something. Another world where you didn't need your tongue to communicate. Very quickly he felt as if he belonged in this world of lyrics in other words, satisfying his anger by expressing his pain. To be creative, he wrote it as a poem. When she started reading it, he could see her eyes and read through her. He could feel his own pain, and it changed his life ever since. Dedicating his life to psychology and metaphysics, He developed a way to get into people's minds with his words. After several times that the media attempted to harass Tilo's family with invitations to interviews to discuss about his Father's incident, that they were already trying to put behind them. They decided to move to Tampa, FL where they can begin a new life. Unfortunately Tilo's family was beginning to live a life loaded with financial issues. The Government took all that his Father owned and worked hard for, forcing Tilo's family to file bankrupt, and to collect welfare. At the age of 13, a boy came up to Tilo and started reading what Tilo was writing. He asked him if he was writing a rap song. Tilo replied, "What is rap?" Ever since, He began battling egos and have found his nature within lyrical war for what will be his next test in the path of his life.
At 14 Tilo became obsessed with Hip Hop and Rap Battles. Tilo could feel the anger and force lifting away with every word. This became his new therapy in anger, he would battle every day not loosing making Tilo a very known person in Tampa, FL. Tilo with his heart set in New York wanted to return to his city to go head to head with the best in underground rap battles. At 15 he got his ex girl friend pregnant At 16 Tilo became a Father. His former Girl friend placed Tilo on child support and made it hard for Tilo to get his son with 0% custody. Tilo feeling betrayed and confused left with a friend that moved to New Jersey, Tilo explained he had family in NYC and that his mother knew and allowed him to move, with no more questions asked Tilo ended up taking a ride that would change his life once again, moving on his own to NYC in search for his dream in music. After being dropped off in his old neighborhood Tilo found him self on the streets of Queens with no money literally stuck in the city, sleeping on the streets. Tilo was hungry, cold, and in deep depression. His Mother had no knowledge of this, Tilo told her he was at a friends house away from everyone soul searching and wanted to be left alone. His Mother begging him to return Tilo in fear of telling her the truth kept his mouth closed but called her every other day. 2 weeks later Tilo was learning the way of the streets, waking up to another day another struggle of his life. Tilo was always loyal and did as he said earned him street credit with a local drug dealer that helped Tilo through his struggle. Offering Tilo a home and food as long as Tilo sold and returned with his money every time. A month later Tilo was packing, and became a powerful business negotiator making the dealer more money and expanding territory in a peaceful way. Tilo could convince any man with his skills to understand his business partners point of views. He created a group of dealers buying from a huge distributor, instead of each fighting for territory. Other major dealers always trusted Tilo since Tilo never played games and always made business better with no fuck ups. Tilo began to read strategic planning from CIA, FBI, Government books and applied to street hustling making groups of people more organized. After 6 month Tilo had 33 people working with never any trouble changing the life's of many that had to do serious hits to get where Tilo would get with words and Loyalty of the street. (Street Loyalty) Tilo was financially stabled and had to do serious business when others didn't want to do business the Tilo way. The streets respected the teenage leader for his mind. Tilo was invited to a underground Rap battle club in one abandon building in Queens Bridge Projects where major gambling was taking place. When Tilo destroyed 3 emcees in a Rap battle he chose to participate in he exposed another side of him no one ever saw. People amazed by his freestyle that jaws dropped literally. When Tilo writes and raps he would rap slower with emotions and a message. When Tilo freestyle live in public he would go much faster and tong twist nicely with a force in his words that would give goose bumps to many, switching between Spanish and English without messing up. A girl from Harlem told Tilo she never heard no one rap like he did that night and she wanted him to meet a man that knows a man in Def Jam. Tilo Rapped for her on her boom box and she recorded him. Tilo gave her a pay phone number and explained he would be there on certain days. One Day Tilo arrives and sees the phone was out of order the day he was expecting his call. Tilo upset by the coincident that he began to go to clubs to battle, rejected because of his young age, Tilo had no choice but to go to underground battles. He made friends with a local gambler in Manhattan. The Gambler began to unleash Tilo in battles promising Tilo 20% with his 70% to set up everything. For 6 months Tilo Battled amazingly without a single loss, winning money and saving. Tilo left the drug dealing business and made income hustling with street battles organized by the genius gambler. Making money, Tilo made frequent trips from NYC, Miami and Tampa. At the age of 18 Tilo was a whole different man. Tilo left NYC city after his adventures and made his mind to go back to the Sunshine state.
Returning to Tampa at 18 Tilo went to a park and fell asleep on a bench in Town N Country Tampa, FL. The next day he moved back in with his Mother. 2 weeks later Tilo returned home from his job and the phone was disconnected. Tilo walked and walked to the nearest payphone. Before making the call a white car stopped all crazy and screamed "Tilo!!!" Tilo saw a guy he met when he was 16. The guy explained he met this producer with a tight ass studio and that he was about to go record and for Tilo to go with him. Tilo knowing he never been in a studio was excited and left to the studio. Once they arrived he met Stand Jones a man that was awesome with the guitar before he lost his left arm in a car accident forcing him to never play a guitar again.. Stand Jones was very intelligent and knew everything about Engineering and mastering audio waves. Stand introduced Tilo to the recording Mic the presentation itself in the vocal room towards the Mic was powerful to Tilo and meant a lot to finally feel and touch a real recording Mic. One step closer to a dream he would only see before he a woke again to the reality of hard life. Stand hit record and Tilo with honor freestyle into the powerful microphone and everyone was shocked at the way that 18 year old was performing. After a while they were chilling and Stand Jones brought Tilo outside to talk, Stand offered Tilo recording time for his album. Tilo replied he couldn't afford the recording time. Stand replied " Its free, we make an album and we split 50/50." Tilo couldn't believe his ears. Tilo left without giving Stand an answer but left his disconnected phone number explaining it will be connected in a few days. In a few days Tilo received a call from Carla a girl that knew the guy that brought Tilo into the studio. Carla asked Tilo if he would like to come over to the studio and hang out. She said a Rapper from Lakeland named Bay was there, Tilo not knowing who Bay was still agreed to come. Carla said, "Stand Jones the owner wanted to see you again." Carla went to go pick him up Tilo left once more to the magical studio that changes his life. Tilo chilled, rapped and enjoyed the whole night with the group of girls in the studio. Finally Stand Jones asBand/artist history
I was 10 years old when my father went to prison for murder. I had trouble accepting it. I was into gangs and very troubled mentally, always angry. In school, my counselor asked me to speak to her, of course to ask me about my feeling towards my father's accident. She asked me about my violent ways and told me to write a story about how I feel about the world and how I see it. While I was writing, I noticed I was releasing energy in my words. Expressing as if I was yelling into something. Another world were you didn't need your tongue to communicate. Very quickly I felt as if I belonged in this world of lyrics. To be creative, I wrote it as a poem. When she started reading it, I could see her eyes and read through her. I could feel my own pain, and it changed my life ever since. Dedicating my life to psychology and metaphysics, I developed a way to get into people's minds with my words. At the age of 13, a boy came to me and started reading what I was writing. He asked me if I was writing a rap song. I asked him. What is rap? Ever since, I have been battling egos and have found my nature within lyrical war.Have you performed in front of an audience?Yes, I performed always in many places and Thank God the biggest performace was May 29th at The play Boy party at the Hrd rock, I was the only booked performer inside the club. Ever since that I been doing shows everywhere in Miami with main stream artists.
Your musical influences
I never heard music. I always used the beat to create my words. I was always in silence wondering of my ways and asking, Why? My influence was always the need to scream to the world through something. I love it when people feel what I am going through and relate to it. Gangs, Murder, Love, Pride, respect, or my journey to make it big in music. To get and idea of my music is like, it is more like lyrical war or the book of life. What you live, breath, or think. Straight up real Sh*tWhat equipment do you use?
Pro tools, chilling my studio and just do music none stop and never leave unless i got things to do...Anything else?
I have love for those who show me love.
and I am doing this for the people if no one heard my music who cared if I made money. I loose money when I die anyways but respect is remembered forever.
