After playing only 2 shows at the Tool room, and one at the Larimer County Fair, Tickle Me Pink was asked to headline a show at the Aggie Theatre in Fort Collins. It was there that they played to a crowd of over 300 screaming fans. The show at the Aggie Theatre was the first time their CD, “If Only We Were 21 and Up” was available, but you wouldn’t know it by the crowd. Many of them already knew Tickle Me Pink’s songs, and were singing along.
The bands name, Tickle Me Pink, draws the response of “Oh, that’s cute,” from Grandmas everywhere, but singer Sean Kennedy and guitarist Tyler Callihan will only smile and say it’s a private joke.
If these band members seem talented beyond their years, it’s because they are. A common thread among each of them is their early obsession with music.
Lead singer Sean Kennedy has been writing guitar riffs since he was 8 years old. At age 14, he had learned to outplay four of his previous guitar teachers. It was then that he found world-renowned guitarist, Dave Beegle. His guitar playing led him to experiment with other instruments, and he has now found his natural talent for playing the piano. Sean’s distinctive voice and impressive vocal range was stretched even further when he took opera lessons. He is currently interning at the local Fort Collins Recording Studio, The Blasting Room working with Bill Stevenson, founder of The Descendants.
Tyler Callihan’s parents used to prop his crib in front of MTV, which fueled his love of the guitar from a young age. He has never taken a lesson in his life, but instead taught himself how to play guitar by listening to Stevie Ray Vaughn albums and imitating it until he got it right. When he moved to Colorado, he was introduced to the musical style of Zakk Wylde, and has been obsessed with his guitar playing ever since.
Bassist Scott Anderson, has been banging on his bass since he was in the 5th grade. Scott has many rock n’ roll influences, but also listens to jazz and funk to expand his playing ability. His biggest influences from the pop world include Victor Wooten, Flea, and Stefan Lessard of the Dave Matthews Band.
As a child, Stefan Runstrom would daily beat on large rocks with gardening tools, until one day he found out his dad owned a drum set, a much better sound. His talent, energy and unique drumming abilities, is a show within a show. While he was the last member to join Tickle Me Pink, his drumming career has already been far-reaching. He competed against 15 other acts in a local high school talent show, played a 10-minute drum solo, and won on his drumming ability and entertainment value alone.
These four unique personalities each contribute to the composition of their music that they describe as punk-pop and a little bit of indie. Every member of Tickle Me Pink has the ability to entertain a crowd on their own, but when you see them in concert, their energy is contagious.Have you performed in front of an audience?we play live all of the time. we play mostly in Colorado but have some tours set up all acroos the states.
