Thrift Store Romance

I was brought about in the summer of '78, full of vim. I was fed ample amounts of baby food and Beatles music. I went from the quiet kid to unpopular teen to tormented songwriter. Whether it's a bass since the age of 9, a guitar since the age of 15...my hands are always quite full of oppurtunity. If I'm not out singing somewhere I'm in my basement adding to my closet of growing songs (300 or more). I am Jay Neilson and I am Thrift Store Romance, I wear my heart on my sleeve and my music on my shoulder.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
I have yet to take Thrift Store Romance on the road. When I do, I'll let you know how it goes.
Your musical influences
It's always difficult to describe a band, I choose not to do it. But I guess I could try. Let's start by saying that I have always been addicted to a great melody, something that lifts the song to another place, something perhaps catchy. Even when I try to get away from the pop aspect of a catchy hook, I get stuck in one. I have come to grips with it, I'm not abstract, I'm marketable. thats the way it is. You will find me in the rock/pop area of your record store. I'm not hardcore, I'm not pop-punk, I'm not screamo, emo or acoustic. I'm good old fashioned rock and roll. Something you can bash your head to, something to tap your toes to. You may wanna scream it out, you may cry. Your choice.
What equipment do you use?
I had been using my own home studio (Roland Vs-880) but have gone into the digital studio world head first this summer. My EP was recorded using a huge MAC and an Orange amp, that's all you need to know.
Anything else?
From a band that's so new, I hope we can be introduced and be freinds for quite some time. Nice to meet you. Thrift Store Romance
