I am Thomas Wolfgang Rohan and I create heavy-metal/funk fussion and melodic slow love songs. I also write progressive jazz fusion. I sing my own songs. I prefer "shred-metal" guitarist's on my songs. I am a bassist/singer/songwriter that uses different drummers and guitarists on my songs. I am also a World Class European Chef that knows the true value of life's assets.
Band/artist history
I started playing bass when I was 8 years old. I come from a large musical family. My older brother opened a night club in Sacramento in 1970 called The Red Ice Minning Company and I grew up watching THE VERY BEST musican's IN THE WORLD. I copied what I could, and played in my first band when I was 13. I am currently working on producing a volume of compositions and have a backlog from the last ten years.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Yes. I love to play live! Everytime I play to a live audiance is special. When I met Micheal Schenker on my birthday--that was a BIG moment for me. Playing for 50,000 bikers in Hollister, California for the 50th Aniversery. Birthday party at the B-3 show in LA. Bass clinics with Michael Manning, Alphonso Johnson, and Stuart Hamm. Getting talked in to moving to LA from Trey Gunn and Mike Patton at the Six Rivers Brewery in McKinleyville, California, California after moving away from Santa Cruz. Meeting Steve Ferrone and his friends in North Hollywoodlike Ralph from the Atomic Punks/Metal School/Steel Panther and other "real" rock stars....and becoming well known in LA as "Tommy". Hanging out with Rod Stewart at his 60th birthday party, upstairs watching his amazing model train town, while "cool Hollywood celebrities" acted like shallow idiots downstairs ignoring the guy whose ACTUALLY "celebrating" his birthday, that was an eye-opening LA moment about fame. Most people in the Industry don't know my last name, they just know me as "Tommy", the first call for Bass. I show up, on time, in time, in tune, and get the job done with zero ego. "Tommy" the Bass Player..yeah "that dude playing the killer tight bassline"....that's ME. Happy to NOT BE in the spotlight. I like my privacy, but I LOVE playing great music.
Your musical influences
Joe Satriani, The Dixie Dregs, The Beatles, Dream Theatre, Rush, The Scorpions, Micheal Schenker, ELP, YES, Dave Mustang, Paul Mc Cartney. I can not leave out my older siblings, who as a young child 4 years old - 12 years old. introduced me to a massive plethora of quality "classic" rock as those bands were brand new at the time. My brothers took me to see them live in concert. My family has always been going to concerts. For example my older sister saw Jimi Hendrix, twice, and my brother took me to see Foghat and the Outlaws at the Cowpalace in 1977, then a concert almost weekly. I saw alomost every "Day on the Green" concert from 1977 on...The Who, Led Zeppellin,Clapton,Rick Derringer,Aerosmith,AC/DC, Pat Travers,Foreigner,Van Halen...when the last four mentioned were NEW BANDS, that nobody had heard, now they are GIANT ROCK ACTS. I got to see UFO/Blue Oyster Cult and British Lion at the Carson City Speedway in 1979, the last show with Micheal Schenker in UFO. I was lucky to see bands like Joe Satrinai, Living Color, Sound Garden,No Doubt the Red Hot Chillli Peppers in very small clubs, and hang out with them after their shows. I am inspired to write song mostly by SEXY WOMEN and current events. Love songs like "Be Strong", about being on the road separated from your loved one, and "Condo in Rwanda", about the genocide there, and the indifference/hypocracy of the American yuppie with their Prius, Birkenstocks & Iphones, when actually they don't really give a damn-- two very different songs.
What equipment do you use?
I play Carvin, Gibson, and Modulus Graphite basses. I use a 1981 GP-11 Trace Elliot with an ART SGX Nightbass SE preamp. I use Hartke and Electro-Voice Cabs. I only play Rotosounds and I use Monster Cables for all my gear. I prefer ANALOG over digital signal procssing as it is SUPERIOR in my opinion.
Anything else?
Live life to the Fullest by showing the people in your life that you love them. Music creates joy in the spirit when played at the right volume. Be happy now, don't wait until tomorrowlife is very brief, and time is fleeting. Time is the one asset you have less and less of every day, no matter how rich you think you are...
