Thi’sl
Growing up in the streets of St. Louis, the hard knock life helped cultivate his street style of rhyming.
Before committing his life and talents to Christ, Thi’sl performed in many different venues opening up for many “well known” artists.
Artists like Too Short, Eight Ball, Black Rob, The Brave Hearts, and Scare Face.
Interview with Thi’sl
The narrator: Who is Thi’sl?
Thi’sl: In the eyes of the world, I’m probably just another kid off the streets that knows how to rhyme over beats. Though I know I have a purpose and only through God did I find that purpose.
The narrator: What’s your purpose?
Thi’sl: As an artist to make tight music, as a person to reverence God my creator with my music and my life and first and foremost to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
The narrator: How did you go from the lifestyle one would live in the streets, to church?
Thi’sl: I always knew that God was real but I was so caught up on trying to survive and “having fun” that change was pushed so far back in my mind. In 1999 though God moved in my life so hard that I couldn’t do nothing respond. I stopped everything for God even rap, (well almost everything.) It wasn’t easy, at that time I had fam Trell from New York talking about getting me signed plus I was putting a CD together, I was doing shows getting all love from the streets but, none of it was satisfying.
The narrator: Wasn’t it hard to get so close to seeing your dream about to happen then stop?
Thi’sl: It was hard for more than one reason. I had just lost my cousin (Tank) around this time, which was one of the life changing events. (One of my so called friends murdered him in front of half my hood and fam.) A few weeks before he died he told me, “Don’t ever stop rapping.” I had my friends and fam telling me, “you tripping.” I had my partner that had been helping me financially, I had to expect him to understand and on top of that, I loved rapping, I had been rapping since I was about 11 or twelve. So, for a while I was still doing it, until it got to the point that I started disliking the very songs I was writing.
The narrator: Why couldn’t you continue to rap and go to church?
Thi’sl: It’s not just about going to church; the Bible teaches us that our lifestyle must also match the word, so that’s what killed it. Fam, I’ve written a lot of songs and none of them move me like the ones about the gospel because I know God inspires them. Not just that, when I spit now I leave people with something, something life changing. I know now I was put here to help change the problem, not to let it change me and definantly not to be a part of it, that’s Thi’sl.
Since conversion and sitting down to learn the Gospel, Thi’sl has been active in ministry using his gifts and talents to edify the Church as well as evangelize to the lost spitting the gospel at high schools, prisons, youth events, etc. Glory to God!Have you performed in front of an audience?Yes. Each time holds a special moment of its own.
