Chris Jones began rapping in his freshman year of high school (2005) but was producing rap and R&B long before he began writing the verses to his songs. Jones went through many various groups between 2005 and 2008, but finally decided to take his talent solo, and began the rough version of his debut album, Prince in 2006. The album was very lengthy, containing two discs, each holding 10 songs, including the intro and outro. The problem with the album, Prince was that the beats were heavily sampled and when the time came for copyrights, money issues were involved concerning rights. This put Jones at a dilemma, being a young artist, with limited money. So Jones joined up with Bonafide Productionz owners, Chris "Saint" Daniels, and I.N.D.Y. and began working on his NEW debut album, Life Or Death. The music on this album is completely original (no samples) to avoid the legal rights issues. Although the album is almost entirely produced by Jones, the other Bonafide Productionz members assisted in numerous beats. The album orignally contained 20 tracks, but was cut down to 10 in the final version. On April 12th, 2008, Jones performed in his first OFFICIAL show, at downtown New Haven's OMNI Hotel, where several artist showcased their skills. Although, he was not picked as a finalist, Jones displayed enormous talent and impressed the judges. In May of 2008, Jones put together a couple of groups he ran into and formed 2Live Entertainment with Saint and D.J. Fun City (of Trak Generalz). Though Jones is still performing alone, he is also producing for these groups as well. Currently, Jones is attempting to increase his local popularity through various shows and collaboration work. Also, he met Tajma Cosby (a.k.a. Future Finest) and is currently working on an R&B project with her through producing the music for her album. He is expected to release his album sometime between now and 2009, as the copyrights are being handled right now. For more information on Chris Jones or 2Live Entertainment, you may send a message or comment. Fun City of Trak Generalz.
Your musical influences
Jones' biggest influences were Big L and Tupac. Jones always admired the way that Tupac put real lyrics together and organized his thoughts in the booth. Jones was also influenced by Big L, which was probably the greatest contributing style in Jones' rhymes. Jones learned to throw faster flows into his rhymes through listening to Big L's tracks and chopping and screwing them, just to analyze the style in which L delivered his rhymes. As far as making beats go, Jones was heavily influenced by Dr. Dre and Pharrell Williams. Jones admired the creativity in Pharrell's beats which allowed him to explore the world of beatmaking and create his own original style. He was fascinated with music Dre produced such as Jay-Z's Lost Ones or Lil' Wayne's Hustla Muzik, which inspired Jones to start using more authentic sounding instruments in his music. He was also inspired by Kanye West, which allowed Jones to explore the world of samples, and begin to use samples in some of his music. You will notice, that the song, The Truth uses a sample. This is from the Prince album, as where the other songs uploaded on this page, are completely original beats. These are all included on the Life Or Death album. What equipment do you use?
Jones is good with many different types of equipment. If the beats are original beats with no samples, they are either made with Reason 4.0 or either the Korg Triton or Yamaha Motif keyboards. If the beat contains a sample, then Fruity Loops is being used along with Reason 4.0. Also for samples, he became familiar with the Akai, which he used to chop up the samples. Jones was known for using a Tascam DP-01 for recording his vocals but has recently been moved into the Trak Generalz Studio.Anything else?
