Gina ground herself into the moving mass in front of her. Sweat and sex was everywhere. The cries of the people saying Go for it! and Take what is yours! were intoxicating. Through the movement and ecstasy, she saw the instigators, the reasons for this tumult; wires connecting people to noise, and the noise pushing everyone together. The Wolfnote: the noise mongers; the challenge to the standing masses; the reason for chaos.
The movement started about two and a half years ago as a small group of five in Edmonton. Above the racket of bands, and amidst the mundane scene chatter, the Wolfnote whispered of something more; a mixture and marriage of irreverent rock and punk, with the sass and swagger of new wave and post-hardcore. The wail of its songs was to be more than just lost love and regrets. A manifesto was penned to transform the pounding music into a rebirth of revolution.
Between 2002 and 2004, the group passed through Canada and the United States three times. It spread its word and song, as small cells began to grow where it stopped. Along the way, the Wolfnote found allies in others, including Hot Water Music, Hatebreed, Soulfly, Rapider than horsepower, Usurp Synapse, Since By Man, Racebannon, Hot Hot Heat, Ensign The styles vary greatly, but the Wolfnotes message is universal, and its songs translate to any listeners ears.
The Wolfnote has documented its songs in fourpublic releases, including the latest full length "This is the getdown!" on blackbox recordings (blackboxrecordings.net). Reviews in national and international publications describe them as danceable havoc and unstoppable.
The movement continues. Whispers grow into battle cries. As the Wolfnote sings its songs, arms raise and people shake their hips, the fundamental beginnings of Rock and Roll. For those fleeting moments, the Wolfnote mixes a room into a frenzy and a release, everyone is together. People are touched by the Wolfnote and take a part of it home, and still, everyone is together.
