Torn Down Units hail from the Orangeville/Brampton/Caledon area of Ontario and play a unique mix of Rock and Roll, Rockabilly, and Surf music.Band/artist history
Torn Down Units (hereafter referred to as TDU) has been rocking Canada since the late 1990s. The band was formed by Orangeville-based singer/guitarist Ian “Ian Unit” Coburn who enlisted the help of old friends Chris Mullen (bass) and Dean Morrison (drums) to generate a unique rock n’ roll sound he hadn’t been hearing enough of. The four have since turned TDU’s sound into something comparable with nothing else out there right now. This is best demonstrated on the band’s latest E.P. release, “Showdown at the Hoedown”, which is without question the band’s strongest offering to date. “Showdown” follows the 2003 release of the Units’ popular “Love, Lost, Still Standing”. “A Fatal Blow of Rock n’ Roll”, and the band’s first off, the E.P. “Rock Out or Get Out”, are still available.
The Units have played all over southern Ontario, including stops in Toronto, Hamilton, London, Guelph, Ottawa, Brampton and Orangeville, and finally made its first highly anticipated appearance in Montreal in January, 2004. It was also the only musical outfit brave enough to entertain the people of Walkerton, Ontario only one day after news of the now infamous Ecoli water scandal broke. The Units play regularly in Toronto at great musical institutions like the El Macambo, the 360, Sneaky Dee’s, The Horseshoe Tavern and The Silver Dollar Room, and other up-and-coming venues like The B-Side and Rancho Relaxo. They have played along side bands like Zen Guerilla, Tricky Woo, Cheerleader, Sticky Rice, Teenage Head, Supagroup and hundreds of others. Many happy music lovers have left TDU shows somehow reminded of The Supersuckers, The Stooges, Nashville Pussy and early Rolling Stones; all killer bands, so the comparisons don't bother the Units at all.
TDU’s mandate is to keep the fires of rock n’ roll burning hotter than ever in an age where the only music getting attention (be it positive or negative) is conceived in a board room, not a jam space, and is void of any wit, charm or substance. Faced with this grim reality, TDU offers an alternative, designed for people who still believe in the power of rock n’ roll.Have you performed in front of an audience? We are currently on hiatus
