Band/artist history
Well first it was just Michael and Mark doing covers of Blink and Greenday in 2000. We played for a year and got a drummer named Enzo (who is their cousin). In 2003, we asked our friend Erin to play with us after she played one song in a gig. At this point, there was no SwitchArounds just some cover band. Once Erin left cuz she went to college, Ria became our rhythm. This point in time, we were really getting into harder faster bands like NOFX, Bad Religion, Reel Big Fish, and Operation Ivy. Eventually Ria left. Max was learning trumpet at this time and Kevin was just a beginner at guitar. A year passed, it was just a trio Michael, Mark, and Enzo. Still no band name. Max and Kevin began playing with the band for a few guest appearances, still not formally in the band. Eventually, they became full pledged members of The SwitchArounds. Enzo left the band in early 2004, leaving Michael, Max, Mark, and Kevin drummer less. Instead of going to gigs and getting wasted, we'd just go straight to getting wasted. Incidentally, this was when Mike wrote the song Shitfaced (ironic huh?). We began writing songs still drummer less. One night while another band called Stale Fish, good friends of ours, were going to play in a bar they asked us to play a song cuz they didn't have enough songs on their set. We played an original song (Drink, Fly, Fall) with Stale Fish's drummer and good friend Tavo. We decided to stick with him since we played that song well. Later in the year, Carlo and James joined the band cuz he played Trombone. We played for awhile until Tavo Padilla left cuz his family moved to Ecuador. Recently Alaine joined the band because he was the drummer of Carlo's other band, Nerd Herd. You'll be able to catch him playing on all of our newer songs. And that's how the Switch-Arounds came to be.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
We play in bars and in school. We put up charity concerts and used to play in Salud and Otaka Ya. You'll be able to catch us at 18BC soon.We think playin live is the greatest thing in the world besides beer. Once while on stage we tried to get drunk during a real long bridge on our song Drink, Fly, Fall. The beer dripped onto Michaels bass and messed it up.
Your musical influences
The Ramones, Misfits, NOFX, Bad Religion, Rancid, Operation Ivy, The Specials, Reel Big fish, Less than Jake, The Suicide Machines, Buzzcocks, Descendants,The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, The Vandals and lots more. We are all into Punk rock and Ska-Core, Oi ska that type of stuff.
What equipment do you use?
2 amps (One fender and one Marshall), A fender 100 bass amp, A Yamaha guitar, A fender stratocaster, and a Fender Jazz Bass(or what Michael calls Blooee). Our brass section uses cheap chinese brands like parrot although we have a trombone that is an American brand. We also have a pearl drum kit.
Anything else?
We have fun onstage and in the recording studio. Hope you enjoy listening to our drunken songs.
