Anything else?
A story by Scott Hill I found her face down in a puddle of puke. "You O.k."? She said "Yes, don't eat the soup". Stood her up, she looked broken from her toes to her chin. I gave her my coat and then we were twins. We walked and we talked and I fed her my lines. She answered in verse, she answered in rhyme. I said "this feels like magic, do you believe in that"? She said "yes, I do... A pretty good disappearing Act" I broke to the bar to buy her a beer. Figured fifty to fifty she'd still be here. Came trotting back two bottles uncapped. She said "you've got two bottles of Buckhorn and I'm drinking Blatz" Oh we laughed and we drank and we drank and we laughed. And at two in the morning they called us a cab. "Where we going?" she said "To your place" I said"you were already there when the floor hit your face." The driver he dropped us at a motel with style. She paid with her earings and I with my smile. Then we sought out the water and made ourselves clean. And acted like lovers from some self help magazine. Then I held her close I could hear her heart pound. When my eyes came to open there wasn't a sound. "What happened what happened," I wanted it to last. Somewhere in the wee hours she escaped my grasp. A man in the morning was bailing his boat. "Have you seen a woman with no earings, wearing a coat" He smiled and nodded and laughed and cast off. My heart sank like an anchor in sand soggy and soft. I walked along the river where the poisonous snakes live. They looked me all over afraid they'd get sick. Found a freind at the salvage surprised I's alive. I whispered"not really" and took him for five. Bought a bottle of Bourbon and sipped it like soup. And she found me face down. In a puddle of puke.
