The Shades performed in the Tucson area from late 1990 until mid 1992. Highlights of my tenure with the group included a TV performance on Dan Harrigan's TV program, in Hollywood, CA. The kids there loved us! We were afraid they wouldn't know or understand our music, but not only did they know it... but they knew all the dances to go with it! Band/artist history
I saw Bob Greene at an open mike jam session at the in Tucson back in about October 1990. He was doing a solo and I was really blown away by his rendition of Since I was already "fortified" with a couple of cold ones already, I introduced myself as a currently unattached bassist that would like to jam with him sometime. We set a date for that weekend to get to know each other. What a joy it was to work with him and his family... all into music. Bob's wife Janet is also a vocalist, and son, Andy was gifted on the drums; and only 15 years old at the time! And they had that good family harmony together. Their previous musical experiences included gigs for (the Governor of California at that time) and We shared many of the same musical influences in numerous country artists, but also , the MoTown sound, and many of the 50's & 60's groups and solo acts. Unfortunately, the Greene's really didn't warm up to Arizona and returned to California which they considered home. I was invited to follow but my heart was here in Tucson with my family. I'm proud to say that my replacement in the group was none other than the bass player from the famous . (yes, the real Drifters) It's nice to know your replacement could only be found from a class act.
