The Sectional
From Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, The Sectional is the moniker given to the home recording projects of displaced prairie dweller Gord Phillips. Completely homespun, these experiments defy genres and catagorization; anything from soundscape to psychedelic rock music.Band/artist history
The Sectional was spawned in 1993 upon aquisition of a simple Tascam Porta03 cassette recorder. Churned out 32 albums worth of material from 1993-2000.
Resumed recording in 2005 with computer software, and a whole new cd is moments away.Have you performed in front of an audience?Just finished up a 12 year stint of roadwork and local shows with dozens of different bands of different ilk. Just catching my breath and doing my first home recordings in 5 years.
Your musical influences
Any fearless, innovative composer or performer. Particular favorites would be Syd Barrett, Pete Townshend, Frank Zappa. Also love the noisy stuff; Sonic Youth, Mercury Rev, Silver ApplesWhat equipment do you use?
Piles of guitars, basses, stuff to hit, a home made theremin, harmonicas, birds, traffic, microphones, and sound samples.Anything else?
I do not compose with the intent of being a marketable commodity. I am merely an artist, perhaps slightly eccentric, but straightforward. If you enjoy my music, I am sincerely grateful. If not, I am still sincerely grateful. Some get it, some don't.All comments (1)
