Some Nights The Stars Don't Seem That Far Some Nights The Stars Don't Seem That Far

A ballad that gets carried away into passionate excess, it's about the way a lover or companion can lift you out of the mire in the same way music can, and vice versa. It's a love song for lovers and music and music lovers.

The Sacred Dice are here to save you. Do not be afraid. We will not hurt you, though we may wreak havoc on your habits, hometown, and those who would like to see you stay safe and predictable. We offer unsteady (over)doses of popping rock and rocking pop, guaranteed to get your body and mind energized. If you try, you WILL fly with us. Let's go.
Band/artist history
The genesis of the band's name is summed up in the Dice lyric: "With life and with love the name of the game is RISK." The band of brothers attempting the impossible--to say it pure and true, amplied and beautified--decided they needed a constant reminder, for themselves and their fans, how the most beautiful and sacred things in life only come to those willing to run the risk of shame, sadness, loss, financial instability, ostracization, a lack of security, and of course a broken heart. Only the high stakes table will do when the game is ELEVATION! Look around at your heroes--only the risky ones rocketed right smack into the heart of life. The Sacred Dice were made possible on November 30, 1978, when Louis Cristofani was born, concomitant with Leonard Cohens latest album release, Death of a Ladies Man, on which he sang what has become the Sacred Dice mantra: "I learned that love was out of my control." This was the beginning because only a few hours later, Louis Cristofani was already fighting (somewhat passively) with his 3-year old brother Anthony. In 2003 that tension was finally channeled into the Sacred Dice! Anthony Cristofani grew up in a suburban town which fit him about as well as the title president fits George W. Bush. So he left to study philosophy at Boston University, and added dance as a minor at UC Santa Cruz. It was there that he met the dangerously beautiful and artistic Emma Freeman, an effect very much like nitric acid meeting sugar. Emma and Anthony united to study Plato, perform pas de deuxs naked around campus, write poetry and fiction, and rob places. The-last activity was of course the most ill-advised, and the activity at which they were least competent. It led to a three-year prison term for Anthony, and six years for Emma, during which he wrote a novel, published some poetry, learned guitar and French, and worked to avoid being stabbed by racist White men who think you shouldn't sit on the same bed as a Black man. Meanwhile, Louis was studying jazz piano at the Lemont School of Music at the University of Denver while concurrently majoring in professional snowboard injuries. Much damage was suffered. In fact, his body is now pretty much broken. Luckily his soul still works. Works really well, in my opinion. He decided that instead of launching off little white slopes hed put more of his efforts into launching up the Billboard charts. Louis proceeded to write music to the lyrics Anthony wrote in prison. They worked together in the prison visiting room, in between conversations with Anthony's prison buddy Rock, a 50-year old man with tattoos on every square inch of his body who will destroy you if you act too hip at Sacred Dice shows. Louis will say that he is the lead singer. Anthony will say that it is he. The battle rages on as they prepare for the jump to hyperspace. Anthony came out of prison in late 2002 like a luger on an ice slide, and now it's ON. Emma is earning her degree in prison, continuing to write her poetry (which you can read on this website) and practicing guitar so she can AMPLIFY herself with us in 2006. Not long ago, Lindsey Hawkins' best friend was a horse named Rio, her mental state strangled with Hip and Coolness and her conversation style a product of her generation. Peter Parker was bitten by a radioactive spider and gained superhuman powers. Lindsey was bitten by a horde of radioactive philosophers and rock stars, giving her superhuman Bohemian powers of Truth, Beauty, Freedom and of course Love. Lindsey is the rambunctious writer who studied Creative Writing first at Northeastern U. in Boston, now at Whittier College, also serving the Dice as as a vocalist, keyboardist, and stick of pure dynamite. Lindsey's parents are both classically trained musicians, yet she is the first rock-n-roll trained musician in the family. She is The Sacred Dice's youngest, most bizarre jambalaya of estrogen, testosterone, adrenaline, nutmeg, scholarship, plastic explosive, sugar and spice and everything DICE member. Her hobbies include dancing, PDW (Public Display of Wonder), and reading, reading, reading. Past boyfriends have included Immanuel Kant, Norman O. Brown, Plato and Friedrich Nietzsche. Carter Wallace went to high school with Lindsey, where they were known to spontaneously leave class in order to drive home and eat Carter's stupendous grilled cheese sandwiches, playing bass and singing. Carter has a shiny black electric bass named Lindsey and it is almost as funky as the original Lindsey. Aside from providing bass solos for The Sacred Dice that will move your hips against your will, Carter is studying bass at California State University, Northridge, which, for those of you who dont know classical and jazz music, is a damn good school to be studying music. His teacher is the assistant principle bass player in the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Carter often sits in with various jazz ensembles around L.A. He likes Chinese food. Please bring some for him to the shows. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- As for the title of our band, I'll let Friedrich Nietzsche (a much dicier man than I) speak on our behalf: "Over all things stand the heaven Accident, the heaven Innocence, the heaven Chance, the heaven Prankishness[heaven]but this blessed certainty I found in all things: that they would rather dance on the feet of chancethat you are to me a dance floor for divine accidents, that you are to me a divine table for divine dice and dice players." -- Nietzsche, Thus Spoke Zarathustra "Are you willing to risk it all, or is your love in vain?" -- Dylan, Is Your Love In Vain "Let Go, Let's Go!" -- Bono, Discoteque
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Mostly in L.A., though we are touring this summer. My favorite venues are Spaceland, King King, and The Knitting Factory. Our shows are different every time, with changing setlists and songs reworked or jammed out. We like to dance. And talk. And embrace you.
Your musical influences
U2, Oasis, Radiohead, Gomez, Flaming Lips, Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder, Phish, Spiritualized, and of course Bob Dylan.
What equipment do you use?
6-piece band, including Lindsey on Digital Performer/JV 1010 with G4 Mac Powerbook.
Anything else?
Lindsey and Anthony are also writers. Check out their poetry and prose on the website, and look for Anthony's first novel in 2005.
