The Rob Hart Trio
The Rob Hart Trio is an exciting blend of traditional jazz, Latin, funk, fusion, reggae, rock and experimental grooves, along with high-powered, on-the- edge improvisations. Rob Hart is a Berklee College of Music grad. He has been playing and teaching professionally since 1985 and has studied with the late jazz great Tony Williams, and has also studied with Mike Clark, Gary Chaffee and Steve Smith. He has performed with the Isley Brothers, Antilles recording artist Dave Mann and Kai Eckhardt. (formerly with John McLaughlin, Billy Cobham and Trilok Gurtu) (Kai is also featured on the CD) Rob Hart founded the Rob Hart Trio in 1992 and has been performing all over the San Francisco Bay Area. This is the Rob Hart Trio's debut CD.
The Trio's of the past, present, and future, is a concept I had for this CD using musicians that I started the Trio with in 1992, all the way up to the musicians that I m playing with presently. And the as the Trio goes into the future, it is always evolving with every new idea, and new musician that contributes to the Rob Hart Trio. Most of the compositions on this CD have been the result of musical experiments with grooves, feels, odd time meter, melody, harmony, arrangements, and just about any kind of experimental idea that I can use with the Trio performances.
There are different trios and very diverse music on this CD. I've used very simple (live in the studio with no overdubs) trio settings to the opposite (lots of overdubs and adding additional instrumentation) as well as different drum kits, from a small jazz kit to a very large drum kit, based on the composition. There is also all acoustic instrumentation to electronics. (synths, samplers, effects) I also use experimental percussion. (pots and pans, chair)
"Tony to the Maxx" is a drum solo that I have dedicated in memory of the late Tony Williams who is a big influence in my life. The solo is a compellation of six different takes and have been edited together with protools using the strongest parts of each take.
Enjoyed listening to your music - rather interesting and refreshing. Nice playing all!
