The Questionnaires are from Newcastle upon Tyne in Northern England. Classy intelli-pop.
Well, we hope you like their stuff, otherwise it's only the critics who do:
"Staggeringly beautiful music ..." Charles Holley, Get Rhythm, UK
"A rarity: impeccable craftsmanship and great art" Miguel Sopena, Red Pepper, UK.
"From the first track, you can tell that they are a band with a high pedigree.... The Questionnaires are a cut above the rest ........." Squib, UK
"One of the best indie bands on the planet ...." Paul Carosi, Radio Freetunes, USABand/artist history
Jane Wade and Steve Hall play guitars, sing and write songs. They've both been around a bit. Their debut album is called Arctic Circles, which has a full band on it, available from ItsAboutMusic and CDBaby.
They now operate as an acoustic duo, and they have a new album of acoustic songs due for release in 2008.
Jane sang with all-woman band Jazawaki in the 1980s, and she now sings in musicals. Her latest show was 'Lush Life' at Live Theatre in Newcastle. She has one of the best voices in the business, she has sung on national TV ads, and she is known as Northern England's finest interpreter of the songs of Kurt Weill.
Steve was once the guitarist in local Newcastle legends the Eastside Torpedoes. In the 1980s he left music to forge a career in academia. His work has been published alongside leading intellectuals such as Jean Baudrillard, Georges Bataille and Slavoj Zizek. He has just co-written a book called 'Violent Night'.
In the 1970s and 1980s, Steve and Jane were pro musicians, had record deals, played with lots of famous people, did TV and radio etc. etc. blah blah (yawn). Making a comeback after all these years is crazy, but there you go.
We hope you enjoy what we do. That's it, really.Have you performed in front of an audience? All around Newcastle upon Tyne.
Your musical influences
From the Blue Note jazz of Kenny Burrell and Horace Silver through Gill Scott-Heron, Sting and Talking Heads to Annie Lennox and Alison Moyet. They just like anything that's quality and touches the emotions, with some intelligent lyrics that deviate from the 'love song' now and again.Anything else?
The Questionnaires nucleus is Jane Wade and Steve Hall. They are two interesting characters.
Jane is a renowned singer in her home city of Newcastle upon Tyne. She performed one-woman shows at Live Theatre about Alma Cogan and Lotte Lenya, and Tina Turner's guitarist Jon Miles wrote a show specially for her - she's that good!
One of Steve Hall's early bands was produced by ex-Jimi Hendrix manager Chas Chandler, and he has played alongside Ray Charles, Robert Cray, Freddie Hubbard and Herbie Hancock. He is now an internationally-known social theorist, with work published alongside Jean Baudrillard and Georges Bataille.MOODZ

Premier adult contemporary music at its best. Love the smooth musical transition from the intro to the verse. Very cool. Beautiful distinctive style to the vocal performance. Great arrangement. Simply a fantastic song with a very important message...Peace -A-
