The Prozacs are a 4 piece pop-punk with half the band heiling from Springfield, Massachusetts and the other half from Coventry, Rhode Island. Influenced by legendary "underground" bands such as the Queers, Screeching Weasel and the Ramones to name a few, The Prozacs have been kicking out tunes since September of 2001.
Band/artist history
The Prozacs came to be in September of 2001, when Jay (of The GrandPrixx) got together with Matt and Kevin (of Honkey Dorey) and Dave (of The Accidents) to write some songs in a different direction of his current band. This was the beginning of an all new sound in Western Massachusetts! With Jay on guitar/vocals, Dave on bass/vocals, Kevin on guitar and Matt on drums...the band began writing songs and playing shows in the Springfield, MA area. The next few months would prove to shape this somewhat of a side project into something much more! In short, Matt and Kevin left the band to pursue Honkey Dorey . Jay and Dave both left their other bands to fully dedicate to The Prozacs. Dave moved to guitar and Colin was recruited to handle the bass. In the spring months of 2002, the band had tried out a couple drummers and then went to Cleveland, Ohio to record a 16 song demo with Ben and Ralf of The Vermin. In September of 2002, Marty joined on drums. The fall of 2002 was spent at Zing Recording studiorecording their debut full-length cd titled "Thanks For Nothing" which was released in May of 2003 on Woonsocket, RI label, Irresponsible Records. A slew of shows came to follow...sharing the stage with many great bands such as SQUIRTGUN, EVEN IN BLACKOUTS, THE START, THE PEABODYS, RUTH'S HAT, BEATNIK TERMITES, CIRCLE JERKS, GOOD RIDDANCE, MURPHYS LAW, THE CASUALTIES, GBH, LOST CITY ANGELS, A GLOBAL THREAT, THE VERMIN, THE PROTEENS, THE COPYRIGHTS and so on. This was followed by a 10 day tour of the East Coast with THE VENTS from South Carolina. In October of 2003, Dave and Marty left the band....leaving Jay with the full-time spot on lead vocals/guitar and the addition of Glenn and Pete (of The Paranoids) in the drummers seat and on guitar respectively. In the last couple months of 2003 and the into the new year...the band will move forward and continue promoting and playing on their current record...as well as writing and working on future releases...
