The Oversat Crew

Oversat is an American indie-surfwave band. Founded in 1999, the band's energetic live shows have been an underground favorite for over a decade. Members Jared Cooper (guitar/vox), Jeremiah LongBear (bass/vox), and King Doug (drums/vox) thrive on the unexpected. Oversat is a Scandinavian word meaning, "translated" and also a play on the opposite of understood. The band loves all things Norwegian, Danish, and Swedish. Scandinavia is the heart of Oversat's indiecore influences. Join Oversat on Facebook: HISTORY: 2008-Present Oversat leveraged the power of the internet to stay in touch with its growing underground fan base. They took 3 years off of touring to write and compile songs to make a 4 album story arch. Some of the songs were written as far as 10 years apart. FUN FACT: Each EP's liner notes and back cover are translated in both English and Norwegian. 2004-2008 Oversat continued to be influenced by punk, surf, and hardcore but began to experiment with rap and indie-electronica. Never a fan of genre blending, they dropped live instrumentation for shows and rapped over self-produced beats. They released mixtapes and two rap EPs. FUN FACT: They also starred in a Bike Safety campaign called, "Keep Your Helmet On" with a rap video PSA. The band also had a love of hip-hop and ambient music. They released all their music in this era on tape. FUN FACT: Oversat's released it's first tape by dubbing over bootlegged copies of A Tribe Called Quest's "Low End Theory" album that Jeremiah LongBear stole from a police dumpster. HERE IS THE ORIGINAL BAND HISTORY WRITTEN DURING THE OVERSAT RAP ERA: Pre-2004: The Oversat Crew is a rap group based in Knoxville, TN. The core members are Jeremiah LongBear, King Doug, Alka-JonHall-ik, Jared Cooper, and T.G. Gutter. The Oversat Crew was formed when members of The Oversat, a punk rock band from Knoxville and T.G. Gutter began working on a rap project that gained national attention through mixtapes, and college radio airplay, and collabs with other artists. Jeremiah LongBear started out playing bass with his band, The Oversat in 1996. LongBear began lacing the beats for local artist in 1998 and did his first solo project "DJ Knox-villan Presents: Dirty South Feed the Mixtape" Since then he has collaborated with other DJ's to get the Oversat to the front lines of Unsigned but Hype. King Doug has been street rapper since 1992 when he moved from Jackson, Mississippi appearing on mixtapes since he was 14yrs. After breaking his first contract with Run the Streets Records in 1997, Doug began the hard grind finding a new label finally joining as new drummer for the power violence metal band, The Oversat. Even though he freestyle half his verses, he is tighter than half the radio rappers. T.G. Gutter has always been rapping. Since talent shows performing original material in 1992, T.G. has been perfecting his quick, witty style of delivery. Turbo got the shaft after winning a 1998 freestyle contest in Daytona Beach where he was told that , though the winner of the 5,000+ participant battle, the promoting label would not let him open-up for No limit the next night. Stating the reason: "We don't think a white rapper would sell tickets". After the set back at Daytona, T.G. released a 3 song demo called "straight from the gutter". LongBear, then a fellow high school student, heard the powerful lyrics of and immediately began producing beats for a full length solo project, "Still in the Gutter" Tracks off of T.G.'s underground solo album can be heard on the 2000 "DJ East Coast: New York to Nashville the mixtape" which included freestyle tracks from then unsigned rapper 50 cent, and Red Cafe from New York, Turbo G (T.G. Gutter) and Young Buck from Tennessee also other unsigned New York/Tennessee rappers. Listen for Turbo G to appear on Mancow's Morning Madhouse. Alka-JonHall-ik was the original singer for the Oversat. His genius and talent got them into quite a few misadventures(crazy sh*t). Now he lives in Iraq, fighting in the war on Terrorism. He drives a Stryker, basically a big gun. He signed that line for the A-R-M-Y. Stay safe, and hardcore out there Specialist Hall, Oversat and A-unit for life. "cheat death or die tryin'":Alka-Jon. Oversat has been touring in the United States since 1999. They are planning their first European Tour in 2011.
