Rob Massey Biography
Rob was born in Canton, Georgia and grew up in Woodstock and Canton, GA area. He moved to Houston TX in 1980.
Rob learned to play guitar when he was 14 and joined his first band, RENEGADE, in 1982 as rhythm guitarist. While playing with RENEGADE, Rob met Ed White. Ed converted Rob into a bass player to join his band, THE NEXT OF KIN. Rob found that he enjoyed playing bass and has not gone back to rhythm since.
Robs musical influences include John Fogerty, the Beatles, ZZ Top, Lynyrd Skynyrd , and Earl Thomas Connely.
Other bands Rob has played in are RENEGADE and ROB WADD and The FILTERKINGS.
Don Sabin Biography
Don was born in Albany New York, raised in North Adams, Mass. Don got his first guitar from his mother at age 13. He fell in love with music when Beatles first appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show. Don later took a big interest in playing drums and started playing with friends and some other local musicians in the 70s.
Don moved to Thousand Oaks, CA in 1980 where he worked as a roadie for a band called CHEEKS. This was the era of 80s Hair Band Music, and Don still loves the Hair Band Music today. After 2 years, Don moved back to North Adams and started playing drums for the WHISKEY CREEK BAND and SOUTHERN CROSS BAND playing clubs around Massachusetts.
In 1996, Don moved to Georgia doing his favorite thing, selling classic cars, and muscle cars for American Classics in Rome GA. He started playing drums for some of the local clubs, and bands where in 1997, he met his future wife and moved to Trion GA. In 2000, Don met up with Ed & Rob at a local music store in Summerville, GA. He walked in to buy drumsticks and was asked to fill in on a gig. Don became the regular drummer for THE NEXT OF KIN.
Ed White Biography
Ed was born in Haverhill, MA and grew up in Blytheville, Arkansas. He moved to Houston TX in 1982 before moving to Nashville TN in 1992. Ed began his music career at age 5 on a train bound for Denver with his mother. He was singing Hound Dog by Elvis while cranking his Mattel Bugs Bunny Guitar that played Pop Goes the Weasel. Travelers threw change to him. Earnings. $5.75. Experience..priceless.
Ed spent many years playing in Arkansas before moving to Texas. He had several bands of his own before THE NEXT OF KIN including THE SHADES OF GRAY and SILVERLEAF. Ed has played with several well known musicians such as Hank Thompson, Mike Lawler, Kevin and Brian Black, Black Oak Arkansas and country songwriter of the year Casey Beathard. Ed also was a finalist on The Charlie Daniels Talent Round Up, and has played at the world famous Bluebird Café. He writes the majority of the groups material.
Ed plays guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, harmonica, mandolin, and banjo. He also has a collection of guitars (45) many of which he built. Some of the greatest influences on his music are the Beatles, Lynyrd Skynrd, ZZ Top, Creedence, and Clint Black.
THE NEXT OF KIN Biography
Ed White formed THE NEXT OF KIN in 1980 after his band Silverleaf disbanded. As a trio, the band played a Holiday Inn circuit before moving to Houston in 1980. In 1984, Rob Massey replaced Paul Bailey on bass. The band played throughout Texas, Arkansas and Mississippi before going into semi-retirement in 1992 when Ed moved to Nashville to do the solo artist thing. After a run as a writer and demo singer in Nashville, Ed contacted Rob who was driving a truck for a living about a reunion. Don Sabin replaced Harold Bigham, the original Drummer. Don & Rob lived in Georgia and Ed in Tennessee, so they played a circuit between Nashville and Atlanta GA. The band split up in 2003 or as they now say a two year break from music. After several personal changes in their lives, the band is back together with the support of family and friends, cranking out southern rock/classic rock tunes as well as tunes from their new album No More Broken Hearts.Have you performed in front of an audience?We do play live through out the Southeast US and love the interaction of live performance. We have had many special moments from being the opening act for several major stars.
