As his enigmatic name suggests, the Nameless Composer's moniker is not to be revealed until an assigned date. He produces music which catches his fancy in his bedroom - usually its New Age, post Psychedelic, Trip Pop, Alternative music with 60s pop and folk leanings. The Nameless Composer is a 20-year old (as of writing) loner, who hopes to break into the indie scene with his records and hopefully his live presence. While solo is the current thing, the possibility of him joining a band is high.
Band/artist history
As a child, the Nameless Composer's only music cred was the ability to play piano - and I use the phrase 'play' flatteringly. It was only about age 17 when the music bug really bit him - or rather, unlocked that universe of musicality and creativity that had been incubating within his consciousness for his entire life. A loner, who was utterly obsessed with music, the Nameless Composer began writing rough songs with nothing more than his inspiration. At this stage, he did not seriously consider a career in music. Most of these old demos still exist in some form or another. Through 2005, he wrote several songs and composed music spanning the gautlet from gothic, atmospheric rock, straight 'altern', folk-based and psychedelic piano-based music. In early 2006, the one now known as the Nameless Composer established his internet music career as 'Trimac20'. Trimac20 was a minor name on the online alternative scene. His song 'Dreamworld', hit no #116 on the alternative charts. Other well known songs included 'Folk Flavoured' (released April 2006), and 'Into The Chasm of Space' (August 2006). But those days are over. The Nameless Composer buckled down, and is now pursuing greater and loftier goals. He (hopefully) wants to become a major name first in the local, the national and international scene. Perth is such a rich hub of music, and I want to be at the forefront of it.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Unless you consider the spiders, dust-mites and other assorted critters an 'audience', not yet. But once I conquer that black dog, I will.
Your musical influences
Far too many to name. I like to think I can see the beauty in all music. I am in love with a beautiful melody, but of course appreciate all aspects of music. I also am influenced by late 60s American/British Psychedelia like the Strawberry Alarm Clock, Q.M.S, Jefferson Airplane, Pink Floyd, Timebox, Small Faces, as well as 60s groups like the Beatles, Beach Boys, Love, Buffalo Springfield, The Byrds, The Doors, the Jimi Hendrix Experience, Janis Joplin, The Lovin' Spoonful, the Hollies, Gerry and the Pacemakers, Herman's Hermits, Sandie Shaw, Petula Clark Cream.etc. I'm also influenced by trippy be-bop/soul like the Temptations, Fifth Dimension, Marvin Gaye circa 'What's Going On', Curtis Mayfield.etc. 70s pop outfits like 10CC, ABBA, a few 80s groups like the Smiths, R.E.M., XTC, soloists like Kate Bush and Jeff Buckley, and folkies like Nick Drake. Not forgetting experimental artists like John Cage, John Cale, Frank Zappa. Add a dash of garage rock/punk e.g. 13th Floor Elevations, Velvet Underground, The Clash, The Jam.etc. I also enjoy current Indie music - particularly music - I prefer the term 'aural art', that is innovative, clever, dumb, stylish, ugly, but never boring. My current faves include Elliot Smith, Belle and Sebastian, the Delgados, Fiery Furnaces - trip pop like Mercury Rev, Flaming Lips, Grandaddy, Sarah Blasko, Machine Translations, The Sleepy Jackson, New Buffalo, and other luminaries of the Oz 'Altern' scene. And not to forgot all those bands who are not household names I've seen live, heard on record over the years. After all, it is the juice and vibrancy and enthusiasm of competition and a youthful scene that TRULY inspires.
What equipment do you use?
TECHNICAL Computer Ableton Live 5 Sequencer with VST plugins Audacity (Free audio editing software) Soundblaster Audigy 4 Technics KN300 PCM Keyboard M-Audio Radium 61 'Midiman' Keyboard MIDI Controller Voice microphone Planning to get a mixing board and Operator Synthesizer, and possibly a more advanced VST sampler/library Epiphone Special Model II Yamaha Acoustic Guitar Yamaha Recorder Recorder Harmonica Bells Various percussive instruments
Anything else?
Any exposure is good exposure in my books, as long as I maintain my integrity (cos you know I gots it ;-). But even if you're one of fifty (maybe that's being optimistic) that listens to the music, I'll still get the 'warmth of the sun' in me at night.
