The Moon consists of 3 people: Jennifer doing the singing and writing most of the lyrics and Maverick and Benway who both play guitar, bass, keyboards and whatever is laying around. Actually we now live in different cities (Paris and Cologne in Germany) but come together once in a while for a chaotic "musical clash". We tend to do things quickly and in an intuitive way. The next morning we usually have got a few new tracks... and some serious headaches.
Band/artist history
Maverick and Benway originally got together as a project in 1999. Maverick is a Frenchman who was born in Paris and has lived in Algiers, Prague and Cologne. Benway is German and has lived in Paris and Cologne. After about a year as an experimental bedroom band they found a musical direction which combines their different influences. The tracks they created are melancholic, soulful and psychedelic. Soon began looking for a vocalist they teamed up with Jenny in Cologne in 2001 to form The Moon. Things started to flow right away as the vocals took the music to a new direction, more structured and catchier too. September 2003: Our track "Ocean" is featured on the great compilation "Merging Lounge Pearls Vol. 2" of the german label Merging Records (www.merging-records.de). The CD has gotten a great review in "Keyboards Magazine". You can order this lounge / chillout / downbeat compilation thru our website (www.the-moon.de).
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Mai 2005: The MOON will play a series of gigs in June and July in Germany. Please check out www.the-moon.de for details. November 2003: We are currently rehearsing and hope to be ready for gigging from early 2004.
Your musical influences
As our main influences we could name Morcheeba Portishead, Pink Floyd, Kraftwerk but also the funk music of the seventies (James Brown, Sly Stone) as well as film music composers like Morricone. Some people have compared us to Morcheeba or Moloko...
