The Metrosexuals
Its always hard to describe your band, especially when you think your the newest thing that nobody has ever heard before. I would have to say we are a mainstream version of the cure and perhaps depeche mode. By no means do we sound like them but there are similarities. Its electronic beats mixed with organic guitars and brooding bass lines, its an intresting listen, i think its something you will sing along with for sure.
Tell me about your history? How did you get where you are now?
The metrosexuals is smooth electronica beats combined with organic instruments to create a groove even you can bounce to, oh yeah and we do it all by ourselves so we remain independent, naturally, until someone realizes our full potential and wants to pay us millions then we could sell out but until we obtain that higher level of entertainment we will stay strong and independent, free of fame and fortune, never to be lost in the material world we have grown to hate. Yeah I think that’s it.
The three some
Don’t get excited just yet, this is simply the band, it just happens to be three of us. We have noticed from our past experiences that drummers suck, so we have decided to do without, well for the most part, martin tends to add some live fills to our songs when needed. So unlike the standard 4 or 5 piece band, we have decided to stick with 3, anything more than that usually leads to a bands demise.
We are simply a studio band, working directly into the mixer recording as we create. This style goes against everything marty believes but has worked for Jeremy and myself in the past. Then again were cheaters when it comes to making music, you can read all about that in my bio at a later time.
Martin West, the official musician of the band jack of all instruments master of one, ok 2, well maybe 3, and possibly 4, but then again who knows what he is capable of. For our project marty is primarily the vocalist and guitarist, and hes damn good at it if I must say! This guy has so much talent its hard to harness it all at any given time, but were making out just fine. Soo..marty is the star of the show and the most talented musician of the group and probably of others things as well, but let me stop before his head explodes. Remember this is just my view, I could be all wrong, read his bio for more accurate info.
Jeremy Bell, this guy sucks about as much as I do, but don’t let him fool you, He can do anything I can and better. Prior to the Metrosexuals JB was my right hand man, and I his. OK that’s gay, but think deeper than that. Jeremy only slightly follows my lead as far as musicianship goes, we both grew tremendously together in Germany learning all the secrets of looping and sequencing, that’s the cheating part. JB is responsible for adding character and charisma to our music, he is also the foundation from which we build all our songs. JB throws down a phat beat and its all history from there; he starts the song and adds the finishing touches to it as well, he really makes our music sonically unique. Basically, all the kool shit you hear in the song is JB, if it sounds un human or unnatural JB probably enhanced it.
Now onto my favorite part, me, just kidding, gees, how metrosexual of me.
Charles Wandzilak, this guy just sucks, no not really! Sometimes I feel like I just watch the other 2 guys play and add a comment here and there. Usually im not in the country or im too preoccupied with life to participate. Actually I have a pretty easy job, im the bassist, a simple bassist! I have no choice, im so addicted to looping and sequencing that I never actually practice playing instruments. I also think im the conductor; I feel I have an ear for what is musically stimulating and addictive. I consider myself more of an entertainer than a musician, like marty im the master of all, but unfortunately I only play enough of each instrument to get a smooth loop down then I copy and paste it to my liking. To be honest with you I don’t have a callous on one finger, can you imagine that. Sometimes I fool myself into thinking im taking all this great talent from the previous 2 guys and funneling it down into the beautiful music you hear, known as the Metrosexuals. Other than that I just make kool bass lines, and talk a lot. Oh yeah, I went to this cheesy online recording engineering school and received my “diploma”, so I tend to be the last resort for mixing all our music down into its final sonic masterpiece. Ok my intro is longer than the other 2 so ill leave it at that.
Rendez-vous
I have to say this last thanksgiving was a very thankful one for me, because that’s where the metrosexuals realized their fate. On a cold Delaware thanksgiving in 2003, the metros gave birth to “no Drips”. It didn’t sound that much different than the one on the EP, we knew we had to make more material. The band is new but the bio is long, it will continue to grow as we do, stay tuned!
Finally, my eyes are burning
We like to keep our fans up to date on our progress, so as we create songs we post them in beta versions online for you to hear. Some say its like be a part of the music making process, others just want to hear the final verdict. We like to take comments from fans so if you hear a song in the beta column and you would like to add suggestions or even lyrics do it, before it is finished. We consider all submission and will credit anything we use. Thank you again for being an active part of this site and most importantly a part of the music.
Have you performed live in front of an audience? Any special memories?
Almost, were working on that right now.
Your musical influences
Theres 3 of us, but combined i would say a bit of Smashing Pumpkins, Massive Attack, NIN, Radiohead, it goes on.
What equipment do you use?
Weve had to sell all our outboard gear on ebay, although i have a drum machine left if anyone wants it. We mostly use Reason and Cubase to get our electronica sounds.
Anything else?
We ask you to listen and give the metrosexuals a chance, its free, so you actually lose nothing. We would also appreciate some contructive feedback, even if it sucks. If we suck let us know, if we rock, damn then, we rock!
