Songs We Used to Sing.mp3 Songs We Used to Sing.mp3

Here's a song by the Men of Music composed using the titles of 43 popular classics right out of the Red Back Hymnal! A crafty piece of songwriting, superbly presented by one of the fastest rising new artists in Souther Gospel Music. THE MEN OF MUSIC

Christian Country

It’s often an amazing sight to see how God can bring something that you once thought was a part of your past back into your life and use it for His glory. That kind of spiritual resurrection happened for the Men of Music who recently returned to full-time touring and ministry. The Men of Music were formed in Austin, Texas in 1995 by then group owner and baritone Cleon Yates. Yates filled out the rest of the group with some notable names in the Gospel music community like Bobby Clark, Jim Wesson, Chris West, and Buddy Burton. In 2002, Yates turned over the reigns of the group to then bass singer Mike Bullock who led the group for several years including hiring members Gregory Colburn and Rodney Tyson. In 2006, Bullock pulled the group off the road after his wife’s diagnosis with Multiple Myloma bone cancer. At that point, it seemed like the Men of Music’s time on the road was a glorious but brief one. Colburn and Tyson spent the next few years performing and working in Gospel music with other regional and national groups. In 2009, Greg felt the gentle nudge of the Holy Spirit that it was time to bring back the Men of Music. After attaining the blessing of Mike Bullock to resurrect the group, Greg started calling his industry friends seeking people to fill the top two positions, and God brought the right people in His perfect timing. “After many auditions, we got a call from a former Men of Music lead vocalist, Rodney Tyson,” mentioned Greg. “Rodney came in for an audition, and it was so evident that God meant for him to be here. There was no question that this was who we had been looking for.” Then came the multi-talented singer, songwriter, recording engineer Thomas Griffin to fill the tenor spot thus rounding out the trio! The new Men of Music made their debut in September of 2009 in Florien, Louisiana in a concert event with the Southern Plainsmen Quartet. Marcelle Slaughter, manager of the Southern Plainsmen Quartet said, “Our group, The Southern Plainsmen, had the distinction of promoting this ‘new’ Men of Music in its first performance! The crowd loved them! On their first night these gentlemen took the stage as seasoned professionals! Not only did they entertain with the smooth blended harmony of veterans, they ministered with class!” “The Men of Music is definitely a ministry minded and oriented group,” mentioned Greg Colburn. “We feel that God has placed a calling on our lives to sing this music. He has ordained us individually, as well as collectively, by placing us here, together, in the Men of Music.” Greg continued, “Our motivation is to see lives changed and souls saved for the Kingdom of God. We see this often as non-believers will come to a concert, but will not attend a church service. Therefore, we feel that in every concert we must convey the Love of Christ in our music, our testimony, and our lives that others might see the love of Christ in and through us. Our goal is to tell as many as will listen that God sent His Son, Jesus, that all might be Saved!” After giving his blessing to Greg to resurrect the group, Mike Bullock felt that he needed to continue to stay at home and be with his family. His wife Carolyn visits the University Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas every four months for a check-up, and as of the last report Carolyn is in remission! The Men of Music are excited to be a part of a very rich heritage that the men before them have laid, but are also expecting great things from God on this new leg of their journey
